Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Shayla Sharmeen

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Shayla and I'm the activities coordinator here at White Lodge.

Prior to taking the position, I joined White Lodge as care assistant in 2022 and loved every minute of my role. My passion is very much in supporting the day to day lives of the people we care for, it is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining White Lodge that will make for an enriched activities program to be developed, one that keeps them at the heart of the local community. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Easter Intergenerational Arts and Crafts

The residents at White Lodge Care Home had a visit from the children from Longleaze Primary School for their late Easter Visit.

With the help of the staff and the children, the residents made bunny with hand towels, adding eyes and nose with glue gun. Adding a little bit of surprise, the little bunny could hold an egg on its back!

The children were kind enough to visit the residents in their rooms who couldn't join them for the arts and crafts session.

Ashton Keynes Community Coffee Morning

The residents at White Lodge went out on a mini bus trip this morning to Ashton Keynes to attend the wonderful community 'coffee morning' which is getting extremely popular.

Every week we have interest from so many residents we've promised to go every week from now on to give more residents the opportunity to make new friends!

It is so lovely to catch up with different members of the local community and the weather was just perfect to get out and about.

Mini Bus Trip to Feed the Ducks

Looking at the dry weather the staff at White Lodge took a few of our residents on a mystery tour around the beautiful countryside surrounding White Lodge, followed by a quick stop at the Coate Water Country Park.

We'll keep doing these bus trips throughout the summer so all our lovely residents can enjoy the opportunity.  A change of scenery is great for their wellbeing, as they love to reminisce about family day trips in the car.

Yummy Easter Nests

The residents got together this afternoon in the spirit of Easter to make some chocolate cornflakes Eater nests with tiny little egg with our staff! It was really difficult to stop ourselves from licking our fingers!

While we waited for our nests to set in the freezer, the residents did a Easter Picture Quiz from Oomph and ended the afternoon with cup of tea along with freshly made cornflakes easter nests!

Charming Trip to see Cherry Blossom

The residents at White Lodge Care Home went to the Town Garden to attend their Cherry Blossom festival in Swindon. One of our residents A. L. used to live near the town garden and she said she used to come here with her children all the time. Another resident met her friends from the church she used to go to.

Everyone had a smashing time wandering through the beautiful flowers and admiring the birds following by coffee. It was a joy to see so many happy faces.
