Activities at White Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Shayla Sharmeen
Hi my name is Shayla and I'm the activities coordinator here at White Lodge.
Prior to taking the position, I joined White Lodge as care assistant in 2022 and loved every minute of my role. My passion is very much in supporting the day to day lives of the people we care for, it is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities.
Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining White Lodge that will make for an enriched activities program to be developed, one that keeps them at the heart of the local community. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.
We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at White Lodge Care Home

Trip to Local Garden Centre
The residents at White Lodge have been out to the local garden centre; Studley Grange Garden & Leisure Park where they looked into various indoor and outdoor plants.
After admiring the vibrant colourful plants and walking around they sat down for a tea and a cake! What a lovely day it was to be out and about!

Women of Wiltshire in the First World War Talk
The residents at White Lodge Care Home had a history talk presented by Ruth Butler from Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre.
The residents were amazed to know the contribution of the brave women of Wiltshire in the first world war. Ruth showed pictures of various location of Wiltshire during the war including the women in uniform at the land in the projector.
After the presentation, Ruth went around the room with the original photos, news paper, stamps, cigarette packet from 1917 which was fascinating.

VE Day Special Thanks to Veterans
The residents, staff, friends and family at White Lodge celebrated 80th anniversary of VE Day, paying their respect to those who fought for our country and commemorating the happy occasion this afternoon.
We’ve had the celebration on street party style featuring finger buffet, cakes, scones, Pims as well as live entertainment from mini concert performing their most popular D-Day Dollis Show.
Deepest thanks to Swindon Veterans, a community group for Veterans who added charm to the event by their special appearance who went around to the residents and talked about their experiences and shared wartime memories with them.
The Veterans also made sure to visit our Veteran Resident in his room as well. We can't thank you enough for making the day special for the residents. Many have enjoyed a trip down memory lane, sharing tales of wartime highs and lows.

Aircraft Spotting for VE Day
VE Day - 80th Anniversary was celebrated with a minibus trip to the Cotswold Airport to join their VE day celebration. The residents enjoyed their tea/coffee sitting at the AV8 restaurant whilst enjoying the stunning site of planes buzzing around them.
The airport has a lot of history such as storing Naval aircraft and then delivered them to the FAA during WW2 from Kemble, the unit also converted Hurricanes to Sea Hurricanes and then much later serviced all the Navy Hunters and Jetstream.

Virtual Live Event: VE Day History Talk
The residents at White Lodge has been watching Live Event: VE Day history talk ahead of the 80th Anniversary.
The popular image of VE day is of partying in Trafalgar Square, of spontaneous street parties and bonfires and plenty of singing – and drinking! Yet many, no doubt, joined with the King in remembering those who would not come back from the war, as well as those still fighting in the Far East.
In this talk Pippa Catterall highlighted both the light and dark moments of that momentous day. One of the residents B.S said, surprisingly I remember that time! Its bringing back so many memories.

Daytime Dementia Friendly Disco
The residents at White Lodge had an unforgettable morning with a fabulous Dementia Daytime Disco!
Two of our residents G.B and J.W volunteered to sing along with the karaoke machine, all the classic hits from Elvis, Doris Day and ABBA. Their energy and talent had everyone singing, dancing, and smiling throughout the event. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed this lively and heart-warming musical morning.
