Our role in the home is fundamental to ensuring that our residents enjoy a fulfilling quality of life. We strive to provide a stimulating, creative & varied range of activities & events in the home, which everyone can enjoy whether they prefer social group engagement or one to one interaction. Residents choice is what we aim to provide to the best of our abilities. We enjoy being creative, sharing projects and discussing with our residents the kind of activities they would like to enjoy. Both indoor and outdoor activities are offered to cater for all tastes as well as regular outings to local places of interest.

Kelly and Sandra have worked for Westgate House for over 12 years, so have many years’ experience. They love having fun with the residents and providing a variety of activities.

Life at Westgate House Care Home
Flower Arranging Session
Rachael’s joy at finding a new skill, 'I am so happy, I never knew I had such a skill ' said Rachael after joining us for a flower arranging session for the first time. Rachael's artistic creation is now in pride of place in her room and Rachel was very happy to be complemented by her family for her display.
Diwali Celebrations
Staff members, residents and friends marked the Diwali Festival with a Bollywood Dance Workshop, hosted by Amreen, at the home. Everyone enjoyed the event and had fun.
World Food Day
Westgate House celebrated World Food Day and decided to support the local community. Residents, relatives and staff collected non-perishable items of food and donated them to Newham's Community Links Food Bank.

Intergenerational Experience
Every Wednesday at 11am ‘Songs & Smiles’ Parent & Toddler Group visit Westgate House for an intergenerational experience, which brings great joy to all who participate.
My Passion for Comfrey
Charles describes himself as a guerrilla gardener; he has a passion for all things comfrey. Starting at the age of 17, Charles loved going around the East End of London planting comfrey in areas of wasteland and rubble.
Charles is also interested in the conservation of wildlife, and the comfrey plant is a great supporter of wildlife, with its powerful plant nutrient for the soil and its juicy nectar-rich flowers that can sustain the feeding of more than 1 bee at a time.
Charles says that once the comfrey is planted it will nurture nature for over 50 years, and that the comfrey can grow down to tree root depths, which is why plants in Africa can survive droughts for many years.
The photo above depicts a visit arranged for Charles when he said he would like to revisit a number of his plants in the Lea Valley area that he had planted over 55 years ago. Now that he has retired, Charles intends to continue planting this wonderful herb when he travels
