Activities at Vecta House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Culture Celebration Party

Vecta House recently hosted its annual culture celebration party, an event dedicated to honouring the rich tapestry of culture within the home. Residents, staff and visitors collaborated to create a vibrant atmosphere filled with the aromas and flavours of traditional dishes from various countries. Each dish represented the unique heritage of those who prepared it, allowing everyone to experience a taste of different cultures.

The festivities were further enhance by the live entertainment provided by the Indonesian community, who captivated the audience with a selection of traditional dance. Their colourful costumes and dynamic performances added to the celebratory spirit of the day.

Guest and residents alike indulged in the delicious foods, sharing stories and laughter as the sampled each other’s culinary creations. The delight didn’t end with a meal, as everyone joined in the dancing, creating an atmosphere of joy and comrade that resonated throughout Vecta House.

The annual culture party not only highlighted the diverse backgrounds of everyone involved but also reinforced the importance of community and togetherness.

A day at the beach

What a fantastic day out at Yaverland seafront with our beloved Vecta House resident's.

We soaked up the beautiful sunshine while indulging in delicious ice-cream and enjoyed lovely walks along the beach.

The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was simply mesmerising, and it was a joy to watch the dogs happily running and playing in the sand.

There's nothing quite like the seaside to lift our spirits, and today was the perfect reminder of the beauty of nature and the joy of spending time together. We cant wait for our next adventure.

Carnival party

We’re thrilled to share the amazing time we had at our own carnival parade in the gardens. A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful carnival members and island organisations that came together to make this event possible with a special shout out to Anne Abe from Dance-Vibz group for her incredible organisation skills.

The gardens were decorated in brightly coloured decorations ready for the big event, despite the blustery winds residents families and friends waited in anticipation for the big parade.

The parade stated within the home with members of the carnival greeting each resident who choose to stay in side and shelter from the winds, clapping and cheering echoed through the corridors. The parade continued into the gardens with brightly coloured costumes and uplifting music captivating the audience.

After the parade had ended everyone was treated to a special performance by the Fat Samba band who’s infectious beats mesmerized all, followed by a short play from the pink cow theatre.

The carnival party continued with dance performances from the talented Dance-Vibz group with residents and families joining in the fun.

The party continued into the afternoon with everyone gathering in the dining room for hotdogs with all the trimmings and a well deserved cup of tea.

Well what an afternoon we all had at Vecta House!

This month’s music theme was chosen by one of our residents Mick after spending time chatting to Hanna at last month’s event. Everyone rocked and rolled to some very popular rock and roll tunes sang once again by the very talented Hanna Nixon. Everyone gathered together prepared with their dancing shoes and rocked the afternoon away. The room was decorated in a classic 1950’s rock and roll diner and residents rocked out with guitars and saxophones. What a fun filled afternoon.

Visiting the Donkey Sanctuary

Residents at Vecta House ventured out a mini us adventure to the Donkey Sanctuary. We had a mixture of weather from wind rain and sunshine but that didn’t stop residents from enjoying themselves oh no! We walked around the paddocks meeting all the Donkeys that each had their own unique characteristics with some being very vocal others coming up to the fences where residents had the opportunity to stroke them. After much walking around the Sanctuary residents choose to stop off at the café where they enjoyed a hot beverage and a delicious cake. Before we headed home residents visited the gift shop to get a souvenir to remind them of the days adventure.

International Owl Day

For international owl day residents at Vecta House had a special visit from our feathered friends.

Sam from The Falconry Experience brought along with him 3 stunning owls for the residents to meet. Sam spent time with each resident telling residents many interesting facts about these ma9jestic creatures with residents being very inquisitive and asking lots of questions.

We all know the call of an owl “twit twoo” but did you know this call is a duet between a male and female owl with the female calling “twit” and the male responding “twoo”
