Orchard House Care Home in Newport

Orchard House provides a happy and relaxed lifestyle in the heart of the beautiful Isle of Wight, with its stunning scenic surroundings. Our peaceful secluded gardens give a sense of space and tranquility.  The town of Newport is nearby for shops, cafés and the Medina theatre.

Orchard House offers a homely environment and the support of high quality nursing care for adults of all ages, helping to manage disabilities such as Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and sensory impairments. We provide personally tailored levels of care, helping people to enjoy life with support but as independently as possible.

Our Memory Lane Community offers dedicated care for people living with dementia. Walking around our Memory Lane Community you will find a place that has the feel of a family home. There are dolls, prams and vintage items with posters and pictures of earlier eras. These help bring alive times from childhood, adolescence and adulthood, memories which help the well-being and sense of identity of people living with dementia.

A focus on meeting the needs of individuals is vital to the healthy, well-balanced life style we want all the people we support to enjoy. Our emphasis is on person-centred care. A varied range of activities ensures that daily living is pleasurable and rewarding. We are proud of the quality of our home cooking, hospitality and housekeeping, which minimise the worries of everyday living and leave time to enjoy relaxation and hobbies. Our minibus can often be seen around the island on enjoyable trips to garden centres, the coast and meandering country lanes.

With three attractive lounges and two dining rooms, Orchard House provides plenty of opportunity to socialise - or find a quiet corner to relax.

Please call in for a coffee and a tour - you'll be welcome anytime. We will always be happy to talk through how we can help you and your family.

Alex Downie

Head of Lifestyles

I began working for Barchester in 2011 as a night carer. I was then offered the chance to work during the days, which was wonderful, as I had more opportunities to interact with residents - and I always enjoyed painting their nails!

Barchester gave me the incentive to develop myself and attain my NVQ Level 2 & 3, which helped me to understand my role a little better and therefore be able to provide the best care I could.

I sometimes had the opportunity to help out with activities, which I really enjoyed. As a result, a became an Activities Assistant whilst still working as a carer - this was wonderful and I had a real passion for it.

When the Head of Lifestyles position became available, staff and residents were very encouraging of me applying for the role. I was ecstatic when I was offered the job and now very happily provide new, fun and person-centred lifestyle choices for those we support.

I am looking forward to learning about residents' interests and encourage loved ones, staff and residents to give feedback and offer input for what they would like to see going on.

Ann Flanagan

Hello, I’m Ann Flanagan and I first joined Barchester in 2002. I have been at Orchard House since 2010. I have had a varied journey at Orchard starting out as a Unit Care Coordinator on Memory Lane. I was blessed to hold this role, unfortunately due to surgery I could no longer sustain the hours on my feet, the company were very supportive and gave me the job of receptionist. I am now 3 years into the role of administrator, I enjoy this role very much as I get to meet all of the residents families and still get to spend time with the residents I cared for. As for my hobbies and interests I have a bucket list which I am working through, so far I have swam with sharks, rode elephants through jungles and met Donny Osmond in Las Vegas!

Paul Smith

Head of Maintenance

I have worked for Barchester since 2010, my career at the Orchards started on the Elderly Frail Unit but after 2 years I moved upstairs to our Memory Lane Unit. I really enjoyed my time on both units but a change came up to step up to Maintenance Manger, so now in my new role I get the chance to make our home a lovely homely place for the residents to live. My interests are playing around with my boat, fishing and I’m a very keen VW fan and you can always find me tinkering about on our VW camper van.
