Vecta House Care Home in Isle of Wight

Vecta House Care Home provides 24-hour nursing care, alongside expert care for people living with dementia in our dedicated Memory Lane Community. Our highly skilled and dedicated team work hard to provide high quality, person-centred care, in a warm and friendly environment. In addition to long-term placements, we also offer respite and short-term stays, which can be pre-booked up to a year in advance.

At Vecta House, we appreciate that the challenges of living with dementia are formidable and manifest themselves uniquely for each individual. Our Memory Lane Community provides a stimulating and safe environment, where individuals are able to be themselves without judgement or constraint.

As with all Barchester care homes, our high standards are reflected throughout the home in the hospitality, food and activities we provide. The Isle of Wight offers a multitude of delightful activities to stimulate the mind, such as the Botanical Gardens, Freshwater Bay and the sweeping views of Brading Down. We also have regular visiting entertainers, offering chances to dance, sing along and have fun.

The home is situated on the eastern edge of Newport and can be found at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in a residential area. Our enclosed gardens provide a peaceful landscaped environment to explore, which is both stimulating and relaxing for those who have chosen to live here.

Whoever you are, whatever your history, you will find a place where you can be yourself at Vecta House. We welcome visitors at any time, so please drop by for a cup of tea and a chat. We look forward to hearing from you!

Our Team

The dedicated and experienced team are passionate about providing quality care to each individual living at the home.

Nichola Shepherd

General Manager

Hi, my name is Nichola and I am the General Manager here at Vecta House. Welcome to our website!

Before joining Barchester, I was the Home Manager of The Briars in Sandown; it was a specialised dementia care home that was rated 'Outstanding' by the CQC. I managed 3 other care homes before joining Vecta House.

I started my career in the care sector as an apprentice many years ago in 1989 and fell in love with helping people.  I am passionate about delivering excellent dementia care and working closely with my staff to develop an outstanding team.

I was nominated by my previous staff team and healthcare professionals for 'Isle of Wight Manager of the Year', which I also won.

I am very proud to have managed to make a difference to peoples' lives.

Julie Balllard

Deputy Manager

I joined Vecta House as the Deputy Manager in 2018. I am a registered nurse by background and have over 30 years of varied nursing experience, including working for the NHS, private and commercial sectors.

Before joining Vecta House, I worked for the government and for specialist nursing teams, looking after people with long-term neurological conditions.

I enjoy working with all the staff here and endeavour to make Vecta a place for residents to feel safe, cared for and at home.

I began my career as a laboratory technician and changed to administration in 1996. In 2002, I joined Vecta House and worked here for 12 years until transferring to Braeburn Lodge, another Barchester home. In 2017, I relocated back to the Isle of Wight, so had to resign as Braeburn's Administrator, which is when I decided to return to Vecta House.

Christopher Selway

Head Chef

Hello, my name is Chris, and I have been working at Vecta since June 2018.

Before joining Vecta, I spent 10 years as the Head Chef at another care home, working closely with people living with dementia.

It is an age-old saying that ‘home is where the heart is’, and to me the heart of all homes should be the kitchen. The pattern of our life revolves around food and drink; it sustains, nurtures and brings us together as family, and friends. It marks times of celebration and significant events, reminding us of what is important in our life.

I enjoy spending time with residents, learning about their individual likes, dislikes and needs. This is their home and I try to create menus that respect this and involve them in this process as much as possible by recreating meals that they have come to love and food that they cherish.

Quality ingredients and presentation is essential; if something is to have value it should look good and reflect the care that has gone into its making.

Linda Walton

I have been working at Vecta House for 18 years. I started as a Kitchen Assistant, developed my skills and became Second Chef for a few years, then took the opportunity to become Housekeeper, when my predecessor retired nearly 6 years ago.

I have a great team of cleaners and laundry assistants, and we enjoy working together. We enjoy meeting the challenges of keeping the home clean and well presented, and the residents' clothes in good condition. We take a particular pride in the standards we maintain, and we are frequently complimented by visitors to the building. Passing on those compliments really helps me keep the team motivated, and satisfied with their efforts.
