Activities at Tewkesbury Fields Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Paula Lourenco

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Paula and I’m the Activities coordinator at Tewkesbury Fields care home. I’ve joined Barchester healthcare in 2020.

As part of the lifestyle enrichment team, I will be organising daily activities, ensuring that residents have varied activities to choose from each day. I love enriching our residents’ lives, creating memories and be able to provide meaningful activities to each one of the residents living at Tewkesbury fields.

Community Day

Naomi visited Ida Poschel from AGE UK and Elaine Mactiernan - Councillor for Tewkesbury Borough Council and Northway Parish Council, at the Northway Community Hub.

Ida is at the hub every Monday to provide valuable advice for older people at this Northway Community Hub and which is also a designated ‘Warm Space’ on Mondays and Tuesdays funded by Tewkesbury Borough Council.

Naomi also raised Barchester’s Fall Fighter’ campaign in association with RoSPA – The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. Sadly, falls are the single biggest cause of accidental injuries in the home, and the largest cause of accidental death among the over-65s in the UK.

Hoping to engage local teams in the community to become a Falls Prevention Community Champions and lower falls incidences, Naomi talked to Ida and Tina Batchelor from the community of Northway, about how we can all help our community with this training. If you want more information on becoming a Community Falls Fighter, contact Naomi at Tewkesbury Fields Carehome on: 01684 850311.

Thank You to Our NHS teams

We are forever grateful to our NHS hardworking teams and Tewkesbury Community Hospital is a wonderful service in our community.  Naomi went along this week with chocolates and goodies from Tewkesbury Fields to thank them for their services to the community and met Jaqui Ness and Jai Rana - we hope you enjoy your goody bags and Barchester pens!

To all local nurses, paramedics and doctors - Don’t forget you can drop in for a free drink and cake and use our wifi to catch up on your case notes in our cafe.

Resident's Wishes Granted

At Tewkesbury Fields, nothing is too much trouble for our residents and this week, Richard fancied traditional baked ham for tea from highly regarded local traditional butchers, Halfords on Tewkesbury High street.  With one wish granted it was then a look around Tewkesbury Priory and then off for a lovely lunch in town.

We cherish our residents at Tewkesbury Fields, and visits to look around our home are welcome to show how we can care for your loved one.  Why not call to arrange a time to look around and meet our manager over tea and cake?

Tewkesbury & District U3A

Tewkesbury & District U3A is a fantastic community movement where local people who no longer work, come together and learn for fun.  Interest groups range from sport, crafts, walking to archaeology and Naomi went along to their monthly meeting and met with Mike Jones the Speakers Secretary (pictured)  for Tewkesbury U3A to see how our residents could get involved with this group.  The Speaker that day specialised in Antique Furniture and talked about his career at Christies and Phillips – definitely future social events for Tewkesbury Fields residents!

We have been absolutely spoiled with festive pantomime cheer the past few days! We had Cats Pyjamas Productions perform Aladdin and Tickled Pink performing Christmas the Musical. Our residents loved the shows and it was absolutely lovely for them to enjoy the show from the comfort of there very own lounge!
