Activities at Tewkesbury Fields Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Paula Lourenco

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Paula and I’m the Activities coordinator at Tewkesbury Fields care home. I’ve joined Barchester healthcare in 2020.

As part of the lifestyle enrichment team, I will be organising daily activities, ensuring that residents have varied activities to choose from each day. I love enriching our residents’ lives, creating memories and be able to provide meaningful activities to each one of the residents living at Tewkesbury fields.

Call to Mind

The Call to Mind Board Game is a specially designed game that helps get to know and understand the thinking, likes and dislikes of someone

Researched at University College London to stimulate memories and encourage conversation An entertaining, non-threatening game to play, yet can uncover thoughts, memories and opinions quickly, easily and enjoyably Helps the whole family connect in a relaxed and stress free way, even loved by teenagers who don't know what to say You can discover more about someone in 40 minutes playing this game than hours and hours of unstructured conversation or filling in forms

Resident John, enjoyed telling us about when he used to work at Buckingham palace, he was lucky enough to meet the queen and the Duke who of course was as cheeky as ever

Every day is a school day!

Today at Tewkesbury Fields Care Home, Retired School Teacher Vivienne has learnt that every day is a school day no matter the age! Vivienne was intrigued to find out the names of some of the beautiful trees here on in the grounds of our home. Our activities coordinator Amanda introduced Vivienne to the Google Lens App which Vivienne happily downloaded on her own phone. The pair then set out on a country walk armed with binoculars, sun hats, sun cream, water and of course google lens, they were soon able to identify the many different trees and flowers that Tewkesbury Fields has to offer our residents.

Postcards of Kindness scheme

Today at Tewkesbury Fields our residents were over the moon to receive postcards from a lovely couple in Worcester as part of the Postcards of Kindness scheme. The residents spent time reading them together in the Bushley Lounge and were keen to respond straight away and make sure they were in the postbox this eveving. We look forward receiving and sending many more postcards from Tewkesbury Fields and look forward to welcoming our new friends into our home.

Tewkesbury Abbey

What a wonderful morning we have had! We went down to Tewkesbury Abbey to visit the Abbey and the wonderful final piece from the Stitch Story (Tewkesbury Culture). Our residents were so impressed and loved being able to find the “square” that we added!

We walked around the Abbey reading all about the history and finished up with hot chocolates in the Abbey cafe! It is so great to live in a town with such rich history and stunning architecture!

Keeping Active

Fantastic morning at Tewkesbury Baptist Church getting some exercise in! We loved this class as it was accessible for a range of abilities and it was lots of fun!

Our lovely ladies exercised to music and had a good laugh in the process! We already can’t wait for the next class …

It was wonderful to be a part of the local community, the group shared the quote - “age is a matter of mind and if you don’t mind it doesn’t matter.”

Cake for Bushley Cricket Club

Emma went over to Bushley Cricket Club to deliver this delicious Victoria sponge cake - hand made with love by Chef Jaro!

It was brilliant to be able to support our Bushley neighbours and see everyone having such a wonderful time at the ale and cider festival, despite the rain!

We can’t wait to bring our residents to some cricket matches and join in the fun!
