Activities at St Thomas Care Home

Our activities coordinator is dedicated to organising meaningful activities on an individual and group basis to fulfill the daily needs of our residents, as we understand how important mental and physical stimulation is for their wellbeing. Our activities are available to everyone who wants to take part and there is something different going on everyday. We often go out on day trips including visiting shopping centres, garden centres, evening meals at the local pubs, visits to local schools and also coffee mornings with other care homes. We have a wide range of entertainers that visit us at our home including musical therapists, Millers Ark Farm, pantomimes as well as our local salvation army and lots more. We encourage families to join us on trips out and also in home activities such as baking, arts and crafts, dancing and singing, we believe this is a great way for our residents to live an active and fun life here with us at St Thomas.

Our New Doll Therapy Area

Our New Doll Therapy Area

Our newly-designed doll therapy area has been a hit with the residents!

Annual Summer Fayre

Annual Summer Fayre

St Thomas recently held their annual Summer Fayre, where they raised money for their resident's fund. Friends and families were invited along, as were the local communities. We were lucky that the weather held out as the event was hosted in our fabulous garden grounds. Pictured is Val, who is the wife of one of the residents, preparing herself for the mad rush that always surrounds the ever-popular bottle tombola!

Horticultural Happiness

Horticultural Happiness

Everyone likes to help out at St Thomas, and the homely activities are really popular with residents as they encourage individuals to do what they would have done in everyday life when they weren't living in the home. Pictured is our lovely resident, Charles, proving that you're never too old to get on your knees and pull up some weeds!

Celebrating the Queen's Birthday at St Thomas

Celebrating the Queen's Birthday at St Thomas

The Queen's 90th birthday was celebrated by residents, families and staff with a street party which also spread throughout the home. The main restaurant at Cherry Tree Care Home hosted the live music and party food, where as the conservatory was host to a more intimate party with bright decorations and tasty food. Everyone had a lovely time and enjoyed the celebrations.

Birds of Prey

Birds of Prey

Colin and his magnificent birds of prey recently visited the lovely residents of our home. Pictured is Alfie who, was totally smitten with the beautiful birds. Even the staff couldn’t get enough of them, especially the newborn tawny owls; most of us had never before laid eyes on the magnificent creature before.

St Thomas' April Employee of the Month

St Thomas' April Employee of the Month

St Thomas' Employee of the Month for April is Activities Co-ordinator, Terri Philpotts. Terri has, over the past months, not only organised and run activities in the home, but she has also, at short notice, stepped in to help other departments. Terri has taken the initiative to improve our themed areas and is constantly striving to make improvements. A well-deserved nomination from staff and relatives. Well done, Terri!
