Activities at St Thomas Care Home

Our activities coordinator is dedicated to organising meaningful activities on an individual and group basis to fulfill the daily needs of our residents, as we understand how important mental and physical stimulation is for their wellbeing. Our activities are available to everyone who wants to take part and there is something different going on everyday. We often go out on day trips including visiting shopping centres, garden centres, evening meals at the local pubs, visits to local schools and also coffee mornings with other care homes. We have a wide range of entertainers that visit us at our home including musical therapists, Millers Ark Farm, pantomimes as well as our local salvation army and lots more. We encourage families to join us on trips out and also in home activities such as baking, arts and crafts, dancing and singing, we believe this is a great way for our residents to live an active and fun life here with us at St Thomas.

Life at St Thomas Care Home

New Laundry Area

New Laundry Area

Our new laundry area has been a hit with residents. They have enjoyed sorting through washing and doing ironing. This area has helped them build some great relationships and keeps them busy and stimulated.

Armistice Day & Remembrance Sunday

Armistice Day & Remembrance Sunday

On Friday 11th November, we commemorated Armistice Day by joining in with the 2 minute silence. Alan, from Goodnight Sweetheart, then came to sing us though the morning with all our old war time favourites songs. It was a fantastic morning that was enjoyed by residents and staff alike, and we'd like to say a huge thank you to Alan.

During the morning and afternoon of Sunday 13th November, we were joined by Mark Carrs. He retired from the army in 2014, and residents had a wonderful time asking questions, looking at his medals and listening to him talk about his time in Iceland and Afghanistan. We would like to thank Mark for his time and look forward to regular visits from him in the future.

Scarecrow Competition at Cherry Blossom Manor

Scarecrow Competition at Cherry Blossom Manor

Activities Coordinator, Kerry, and resident, Charlie, attended Cherry Blossom Manor recently for their scarecrow competition. We spent time during the week preparing our scarecrow, and we were proud winners of the contest! We would like to thank Cherry Blossom and Marnel Lodge for a great day.

Annual Summer Fayre

Annual Summer Fayre

St Thomas recently held their annual Summer Fayre, where they raised money for their resident's fund. Friends and families were invited along, as were the local communities. We were lucky that the weather held out as the event was hosted in our fabulous garden grounds. Pictured is Val, who is the wife of one of the residents, preparing herself for the mad rush that always surrounds the ever-popular bottle tombola!

Horticultural Happiness

Horticultural Happiness

Everyone likes to help out at St Thomas, and the homely activities are really popular with residents as they encourage individuals to do what they would have done in everyday life when they weren't living in the home. Pictured is our lovely resident, Charles, proving that you're never too old to get on your knees and pull up some weeds!
