Activities at Springvale Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Jess Bruford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.

I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Easter Party Plan

Springvale celebrated Easter with an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities, from an ‘egg-cellent’ egg painting competition, music and games to a visit from a special guest who delivered the home's Easter eggs.

Musical Magic

Residents of Springvale Court enjoyed an afternoon of grins with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local vocalist, Michaela Marshall of Musical Memories, performed a selection of classic hits in the home's car park with her special backing group—the staff—to the delight of residents watching from windows!

Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along as the band performed their finale song. The hospitality team at the home also provided a spread of sweet treats for guests to enjoy during the show.

Our residents had a wonderful day singing along with the wonderful performer and had a good old giggle watching us. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this was one of our favourites!

We are now rated 'Good'!

Springvale Court passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with an overall 'Good' rating after being praised for a responsive, safe, effective, caring and well-led service.

The CQC inspected the home on the 13th and the 20th January 2020 and the report was released on 19th February and rated the home as 'Good' overall. The report stated that, “People received good care from a kind and considerate staff team.” The report went on to say “staff treated people with respect and encouraged people to be as independent as possible.”

We are delighted that Springvale Court was rated ‘Good’. The team always strive to provide the best possible quality care for everyone who lives at the home.”

Keeping in Touch

Springvale Court is helping to tackle any feelings of isolation during this period within their own community. Assistance for residents to use iPads, Skype, Facebook and FaceTime is being encouraged and facilitated by care workers as a way to reach out to families, friends and loved ones during these isolating times. The team are helping residents to create cards for them to write their messages on to for friends and family to read.

Loneliness can be a big problem for elderly people, and communicating with others is key to maintaining happy residents in a happy home. Our doors are usually always open to visitors but at this time we are in lockdown like everyone else ,and so communication & keeping in touch however we can is paramount.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Residents of Springvale have been busy making rainbows, which they have displayed along our first floor lounge for passing traffic and members of the local community to see as they go past. The idea is that members of community display rainbows in their windows so that children can go ‘rainbow spotting’ when out for their exercise with family. The colourful displays are brightening up everyone’s day! The Facebook group has over 90,000 members and the home is delighted to be part of the community spirit.

Postcards from Around the World

Residents of Springvale Court love receiving post cards from people from all over the world, and have received cards from America, Spain, Greece, Scotland and many destinations from around the UK. Residents enjoy reading all the different messages, as it makes their day!

They have even created a ‘Kindness’ wall. Postcards of Kindness is an initiative that asks people to write and send postcards to residents. While it’s a small gesture, the resulting deliveries bring a great deal of joy and spark lively conversations amongst everyone.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to send us post cards we cannot wait to receive some more.
