Activities at Spen Court Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angela Blackburn

Head of Activities

My name is Angela and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Spen Court. I get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness.

We feel it is important to build community connections and maintain our resident’s social interaction outside the care home.

We ensure we deliver a person-centered program of events and activities and build strong relationships with our residents, their families and friends.

Life at Spen Court Care Home

Home say fond farewell to retiring colleague

After 6 years of continuous service at Spen Court much-loved Care Assistant, Christine has decided to retire.  Staff and residents at the home sent Christine off in style with cards and gifts to thank her for many years of dedication and a farewell party with lots of singing. Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Christine and are delighted that she will be keeping in contact with the home as a volunteer.

A little friendly competition

Residents here at Spen Court took part in a few games of indoor bowls using a set of soft indoor bowling balls and a target for the residents to roll the balls into.

They had great fun! The residents enjoyed playing and started to become competitive trying to score more than the next person! A little light competition never hurt anyone and residents are looking forward to plenty more chances to compete against one another and improve their skills.

Colleague receives award

Residents and staff at Spen Court applauded as Kitchen Assistant, Kerry Turner was named ‘Employee of the Month’ for going above and beyond in her role and helping throughout the home.

Kerry was nominated by residents and colleagues who felt she really deserved extra recognition for the amazing work she does every day.

Kerry was congratulated by the home’s Deputy Manager for the achievement and was presented with a £25 voucher as a special thank you.

Carers week

Happy Carers Week! We would like to take this great opportunity to recognise and thank our wonderful carers here at the home.

We are proud of each and every one of our care team for the outstanding care that they provide to our residents every single day. They always go above and beyond their role and for this we are truly grateful.

National Trust talk

Our homes had a fantastic time joining National Trust Talks Service team at Cliveden House for an inspirational talk on Nancy Astor – the first woman to take a seat in the House of Commons.

Our residents had the opportunity to learn more about the fascinating life of Nancy and her political career. As the first women MP, she experienced both attention and scandal throughout her life, which led to many triumphs and numerous disasters.  The talk was truly enjoyed by all.

Ferndown florist demo

Our homes had a lovely time joining Sue and Nicole from Ferndown Florist for an intriguing flower arrangement workshop in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful virtual demonstration and got inspired to create their own flower posies for our Jubilee displays.  Our home will be specially decorated for the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned.
