Activities at Southgate Beaumont Care Community

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Zoe Grindley

Activities Coordinator

Hello My name is Zoe, I have been in the life enrichment team at Southgate Beaumont since December 2021.

I am originally from Liverpool and moved to London in 1997 after being accepted at Mountview Theatre school. After graduating I worked as an actress and accomplished voiceover artist for many years. I also have a vast amount customer service experience, working in many West End Theatres, as Cabin crew for Virgin Atlantic and at Claridges hotel in Mayfair.

Zoe has a passion for making strong connections with people and creating lasting memorable experiences.

My role here at Southgate Beaumont is to ensure our residents lives are packed full of enriching and interesting activity. We provide a wide range of both home led and community led activity for all residents as well as personalised and individual hobby and interest focused events. Our programme ranges from cocktail making, to art history talks, exercise sessions as well as fine dining dinner parties catered for by our chefs

I have made lots of lovely new friends at Southgate Beaumont care home and look forward to making many more.

Harp Concert

Here at Southgate, we had a real pleasure welcoming a highly commended and versatile harpist, Sunshine Lo, into the home, who is currently undertaking her Masters in Performance, and  studying  under Karen Vaughan at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Sunshine is frequently involved in community projects, working with children, hospital patients and people living with dementia and learning disabilities.

A special thanks to Iva for arranging the concert and Mark for helping with the venue. After the performance, everyone was asked if they would like to touch the instrument.

The Walkers of Southgate

The Walkers of Southgate

The Walker family owned the Southgate Beaumont (then known as Arnos Grove House) from 1777 to 1918. They were brewers, but they became better known for their cricketing achievements.

During the Victorian period, Isaac Walker and his wife had 12 children. Not much is known about the 5 girls, but the 7 sons became very prominent in top class cricket, establishing the Walker ground in Waterfall Road and being closely involved with the setting up of the Middlesex County Cricket Club.

Vyell Edward Walker (known as 'Teddy') was regarded as the best all round cricketer until W.G. Grace appeared on the scene.

None of the brothers married and the house was sold in 1918 by the last of the them: Russell Donnithorne.

Winnie the Pooh Day

Winnie the Pooh Day

We celebrated Winnie the Pooh Day with Pom- Bears, honey and ginger bread men. There was wine, lots of singing and, most importantly, lots of fun!

Burns Night

Burns Night

We celebrated Burns Night with June reading poetry, eating haggis and drinking whiskey. We also sang Auld Lang Syne, with residents, Iva and Mark helping out with the serving throughout the evening.
