Activities at Southerndown Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Cathy Wheeler
I have been with the team at Southerndown since 2023
People ask me what I enjoy about my job and the answer is easy... 'the people'. Its the small things that make the difference every day, seeing people smile and seeing someone respond positively to interaction. We offer a great life enrichment programme at Southerndown and every day is different but enjoyable.
In my spare time I like to spend time in the garden, I enjoy sewing but mostly love spending time with my grandchildren

Life at Southerndown Care Home
A Rainy Afternoon
What to do a rainy afternoon? We thought a jigsaw puzzle might be a great idea! We decided upon a 250 piece summer at the beach, and what a fantastic team effort; all finished in under 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Dancing to the Drums
Residents enjoyed a visit from In 2 Cultures, who did some fantastic African drumming. Residents were so excited to play the drums, learn some new songs and dance to the toe-tapping and hand-clapping music.
Little Visitors
Southerndown has recently enjoyed a visit from Russian students who are studying culture, etiquette and education with The Slingsby Partnership. Most of the students live in Moscow and are really enjoying their trip to the UK. We have been very happy talking with the children and learning about life in Russia. We are really looking forward to meeting the next group of students!
Dancing Queens
Southerndown recently had a visit from Ali Maxwell and pupils from her ballet dancing class. What a lovely afternoon treat; they were so graceful and elegant! We all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and can't wait to have them back.
Southerndown's Scrapbook
Residents at Southerndown have been busy making their very own scrapbook. The process has been good fun and it has brought back lots of memories.
Toddington Railway Station
Making the most of the beautiful spring sunshine, we decided to head off into Gloucestershire and visit the very quaint Toddington Railway Station. What wonderful memories this brought back for all of us!
