Activities at Southerndown Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Cathy Wheeler
I have been with the team at Southerndown since 2023
People ask me what I enjoy about my job and the answer is easy... 'the people'. Its the small things that make the difference every day, seeing people smile and seeing someone respond positively to interaction. We offer a great life enrichment programme at Southerndown and every day is different but enjoyable.
In my spare time I like to spend time in the garden, I enjoy sewing but mostly love spending time with my grandchildren

Life at Southerndown Care Home
Through the Decades
Here at Southerndown, residents decided that it would be nice to have some reminiscence activities through the decades.
We have based various activities around this, and it has included reminiscence kits, residents photos through the decades and of course a quizzes through the decades.
Residents have said that it has brought back many wonderful memories and it was nice to be able to share some of their photographs with others.
Southerndown Olympic Date
Staff and residents at Southerndown have been participating in their very own Olympics and have been trying their hand at bowling. Who knew we had such keen bowlers at Southerndown?
Oomph Again
Residents and staff have been taking part in 'Oomph' parties around the home. These are so much fun, and it’s a good way to keep moving.
We keep fit and sing along with our favourite songs, and of course, we get to use our favourite pom-poms.
Crazy Golf
We all enjoyed a game of crazy golf in the courtyard in the sunshine. We have been unable to go to the driving range, so we thought a game of golf in the garden would be just the ticket! Residents wore their gold medals afterwards proudly.
Green Fingers
We have all been taking part in our very own Chelsea Flower Show. Residents have enjoyed planting new bulbs and doing some good old fashioned weeding! We were kindly sent some lovely tomato plants from St Mary's Church, Chipping Norton. Residents have enjoyed tending to them and can’t wait to see them growing!
Arts & Crafts
Residents enjoyed collecting wood from the gardens in the sunshine to create some impressive art to display on our walls. It was a great team effort from all residents, and they enjoyed seeing the finished product.
