Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Emma Powers

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Emma Powers; I am the Activities Coordinator here at Sherwood Lodge.

I have worked in the care sector for over two decades; prior to this I was a soldier in the UK Armed Forces where I gained exceptional powers of communication, organisation and teamwork. During my time as a carer I have gained my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and have been employed as a Senior Carer. I chose to switch professional roles to activities as I find supporting both residential and dementia residents very rewarding.

I have been employed within Barchester for over three years, I love working for this company and am really excited to continue to care for all of its residents and their families.

Life at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

Music in Mind

Residents of Sherwood Lodge were delighted to welcome, Al from ‘Music in Mind’ for a live performance.  Al, treated residents to a medley of hit songs, sprinkled with a little good humour to the delight of all.  Everyone had a fantastic evening and looking forward to the next session.

Games afternoon

Residents at Sherwood Lodge enjoy a varied life enrichment programme to keep the mind, body and soul active. Each day there are popular group activities bringing everyone together along with individual Resident centred activities.

Residents laughed as they showed a little friendly competitiveness to enjoy a fun filled afternoon with a ‘old dog’ card game before enjoying a cup of tea and slice of homemade cake.

Postcards of Kindness

We were delighted to receive lovely postcards from Pam in Devon as part of our ‘Postcards of Kindness’ initiative.  Pam was wishing our residents and staff a very happy new year.  Pam was also looking for ‘pen-pals’ and our residents were only too happy to respond and share their memories of favourite holidays  and childhood teddy bears.  If you would like to participate, please do send in your letters or cards, we love reading them!

Primark gift presents to the home

All of us at Sherwood Lodge would like to say a massive thank you to the staff at Primark in Preston.  Rather than buying Secret santa gifts for each other, they chose to share the Christmas spirit by buying each of our residents a gift of their choice...... Today they delivered in true Christmas style, this is the true gift of Christmas

Christmas party

Residents and staff had a wonderful time at our Christmas party. Wine, goodies and dreadful jokes were enjoyed by all; what goes ho ho ho bump,….................Santa laughing his head off!

Cards from friends

Thank you for the generosity of year 10 and 11 pupils at Our Lady’s Catholic High Scholl Fulwood for sending such beautiful Christmas Cards and gifts to our residents at Sherwood Lodge. We also send our thanks to Terry at Action Youth Group for organizing this wonderful event.

The reading of the cards caused one or two of our residents to weep with the well wishes and other residents to break out in the biggest of smiles. We look forward to welcoming the students here to meet the residents as soon as circumstances allow.
