Activities at Shelburne Lodge Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Shelburne Lodge Care Home

A voice in a million.

What an absolutely wonderful afternoon we had yesterday at Shelburne Lodge. We were joined by FionaHarrison - A Voice in a Million, who entertained us with songs and outfits of yesteryear.

Dementia Action Week

Here at Shelburne Lodge we’ve planned a variety of fun-filled activities for Dementia Action Week.

During the week, our residents learnt more about the importance and emotional benefits of singing, music and physical exercises through themed singalongs, gentle exercise sessions and live entertainment.

Today we also had the opportunity to host our very own Memory Cafe with Barchester’s Dementia Care Specialist Leon Smith. Thank you very much for coming in, Leon.

We raised awareness for those living with Dementia and had a lovely time.

International Nurses Day

Coinciding with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, International Nurses Day, held on Friday 12th May, is a day to celebrate nurses and care staff around the world. Residents and staff at Shelburne Lodge care home in High Wycombe, were happy to get involved by hosting a much deserved Nurses Party and visits to the local community and Wycombe Hospital.

In 2023, the theme for International Nurses’ Day is Our Nurses. Our Future.  The International Council of Nurses is launching a global campaign to set out what it wants for nursing in the future in order to address global health challenges and improve global health for all.  International Nurses’ Day is a day to give thanks for the dedication of care givers everywhere, who go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver extraordinary care and support.

King's Coronation

Excitement was in the air as we all celebrated the highly anticipated Coronation of King Charles in style.

Our home was beautifully decorated with themed flags, banners and balloons, setting the stage for a grand royal Tea Party.

The whole home came together, along with families, friends and local community members to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering.

Our talented Head of Housekeeping, Rachel prepared an assortment of delicious sweet treats and cakes for all that were present to enjoy !

We all had such a brilliant time celebrating the Coronation, such a momentous occasion.

Mother & Daughter Duet

Margaret and Suey enjoy playing the piano in the lounge at Shelburne lodge and the residents and staff love listening too.

Margaret Baker, resident at Shelburne Lodge and her daughter Suey have both played the piano since they were 8. Margaret, 94 years young has loved playing the piano for over 86 years and taught her daughter to play and read music.

They have been playing duets together for the past 10 years and even continued to duet through lock down when they played over facetime.

Thank you again to Wycombe Abbey for the wonderful piano you donated as you can see it's been put to good use.

Music & Movement

Seated mobility and exercise classes are always a favourite at Shelburne Lodge.

GI Fitness joined us and residents moved and stretched a long music to warm up. Then enjoyed playing games such as balloon tennis and finished the session with some gentle chair based exercise.

It was a really fun and energetic sessions and we are all feeling much stronger and fitter!
