What our families say on carehome.co.uk

"The care Mum received has been truly wonderful, the staff are very caring and have treated us like family. Nothing has been too much trouble, and anytime Mum needs respite care we will be back."

"My mum arrived at Shelburne Lodge on 9th December 2023. Instantly she was treated with kindness and respect. Me and my family were made to feel like one of the Shelburne family. The whole time we were there the management and staff were so kind and helpful to us. Unfortunately, my mum passed on 2nd Jan 2024 and was treated with dignity and kindness and helped us through a difficult time. Thank you for everything."

"The management team were very welcoming and warm in explaining how Dad would fit in and what it would be like. All the staff nursing and healthcare had were very attentive and provided great care and spent time to know Dad. This has helped Dad settle into life at Shelburne. Dad takes part in activities which he enjoys. All the staff are happy to stop and help explain to us or Dad which is encouraging as this helps us know how Dad is feeling or anything which we can do. Thanks, Shelburne Lodge."

"This care home is the best I have seen. Shame the downstairs lounge isn't used more, very dark, not very inviting. Seems to be used more for staff meetings! Feels some staff could chat and spend time talking with my mum more, interacting with her."

"The staff are kind and friendly, and my mother has expressed her satisfaction with her care. She was a very reluctant resident when she first arrived, but her attitude has really changed. The home has improved under the new management."

"The entertainment and activities available for residents and their guests is varied and age-appropriate. Mum particularly likes listening to live classical sets and singers. The donation of a piano to the home took place as Mum moved in. This timely event has enabled Mum to continue to play, something she has done all her life, an oasis of familiarity as she settled into the new daily routine and makes Shelburne Lodge her home!"

"The experience I had with the nursing home, my father-in-law was in there for 8 weeks and the care we got for him was brilliant. I will recommend you highly if I know anybody that needs nursing, I will show them the way. Thank you very much for the care and dedication we received."

"We were very happy with the care and attention given to my mother while she was at Shelburne Lodge Care Home for 7 weeks of convalescence after leaving the hospital. The staff were all kind and attentive and provided valuable physical and emotional support. All the facilities were maintained to a high standard and there were opportunities for recreation."

"Shelburne Lodge Care Home is always warm and inviting and the staff couldn't be more welcoming. My father visits my mother every day and is always greeted by the staff with a smile. Mum is well cared for and happy. The team are well led by the manager who has been more than supportive of us as a family. This is an excellent nursing home and I would thoroughly recommend it."

"My mother-in-law is being well looked after, and I believe has a nice room and has had her hair done, so looking good. The staff, I find, are always accommodating and kind, and recently, had a party for the anniversary of the home being open for 30 years, which was a happy experience for my mother-in-law. Thank you for all you do."

"Although we only used Shelburne Lodge for a few days for end of life care, we were very impressed with the kindness and compassion shown to all of us at this very difficult time. The resident was treated with dignity at all times, and all staff we met were very supportive. Thank you so much!"

"The manager and her team were so supportive and the care mum received was amazing for her end of life. It was great to be able to bring our dog Ebony to see mum, they treated her like royalty. I cannot praise the team highly enough, especially with the difficulties in keeping all staff, residents and visitors safe and free from COVID-19. Mum passed away peacefully with dignity and her family beside her, thank you so very much."

"This is the most amazing care home! After a nightmare week of being in hospital, my mum was transferred to Shelburne Lodge for end of life care. It was a whole different experience. The staff were all extremely caring and supportive towards all of us and we felt that mum was being looked after compassionately and with dignity when we were not there. The manager is fantastic and runs a fabulous care home and team of staff. I cannot recommend this place enough!"

"My mother was transferred here by the hospital for end of life care in May 2021. She was not expected to survive. Six months later she is still with us! Staff are extremely caring, got to know her very quickly in difficult circumstances. All staff from maintenance, housekeeping, catering, caregivers are always welcoming and friendly, really know residents and visitors. Had a dear friend at Shelburne for the last months of her life, she was ha[[y and so well cared for. Glad mum was able to come here. The manager is an exceptionally compassionate and caring leader."

"From day one the home endeavoured to be nothing but accommodating. The Purple Team are amazing, the Green Team are caring and went the extra mile. The Dark Blue Team have redeemed themselves in the last fortnight. The front of house is amazing and the Manger runs a good ship."

"Kindness, compassion, and real caring are not things you can learn from a manual or be taught on a course - they are within you, and every member of the team who we have encountered so far has these attributes in abundance. However, they manage to balance this with absolute professionalism, within itself is remarkable. A good team is only as good as its leadership and the Manager is the best. Her hard work and commitment is an example to all and we can't praise her enough."

"I recently visited my great aunt who is living here. A recent change in management has created an entirely positive change in atmosphere. The new manager is a breath of fresh air and her care and compassion is clear. While visiting I witnessed a meal being served and I must say the quality of the food looked far beyond what I’m served at home. The staff were attentive to the needs of my great aunt and I noticed all residents being treated with the same respect and dignity. The lounge area was bright, clean and welcoming. I didn’t expect to feel as comfortable at the idea of having a relative in a care home however after seeing the quality of living provided I will not only be visiting more often but will consider this home for my parents as they grow older. Thank you to both the manager and the staff for providing such a positive first visit to my great aunt and being so kind and welcoming in their work."

"My Dad became a resident in 2016 after a long hospital stay and unable to return to his home because of the difficulties he faced with his health. Shelburne Lodge looked after our Dad so well we couldn't have asked for anything more. He enjoyed the activities and the entertainment, we used to come and visit and he'd tell us all about it. His room was kept immaculate. He was always clean and tidy and comfortable. The food always looked good and if he didn't fancy the meal the staff would try and find him something that he did want. We really can't praise the staff enough. We sadly lost our Dad in February, we miss visiting him dreadfully. But we can honestly say we know our Dad's last few years he had new friends around him and was well looked after."

"My Aunty has spent three years in this home and if she would have taken part in all the activities it would have been lovely. I did manage to get her down a few times. The care my Aunty got was excellent and she was not that easy. The staff understood her difficult ways and sometimes she got cross because they did not come when she bussed. We told her she was not the only one in here. The last two weeks of the end of life care from all the staff was amazing. Thank you so much."

"Visiting from overseas I was nervous as to what to expect for my first visit to Shelburne. I shouldn't have worried. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff who clearly care for the residents. Their compassion is reflected in a happy group of residents. I can now leave knowing that my mother is in excellent hands, which is very reassuring. Thank you."

"My friend needed a nursing home urgently for respite, not coping at home after a fall. Phoned Friday at 2.30pm, visited at 3pm and friend was assessed at home that afternoon. Was collected by staff Monday lunchtime. Incredible service. All staff are so caring and had my friend's best interests at heart. Settled in very quickly after 2 days, asked to stay permanently. Very impressed with care and attention she has received. She is very happy here."

"My mother was admitted at short notice less than 24 hours after her husband died and the reception was exceptional. She was welcomed with compassion and understanding. Almost immediately, we noticed an improvement in her general behaviour. She became responsive and more alert. She has eaten well and put on weight. We would recommend a Barchester home to others without hesitation and would like to thank the staff and management for what they have done for mum."

The atmosphere in the home is calm and supportive to residents and visitors. "My neighbour went into Shelbourne Lodge originally as a respite resident but things took a turn for the worse and it was apparent that she would not be returning home. The staff were absolutely fantastic. They took great care of my friend with tenderness and respect. They were also very kind and in the early days, allowed her to have her meetings in the home with her "Sparkles" group."

"When walking up to the front entrance, I could see how well maintained the grounds and pathways were. I was greeted upon entering the main doors and made to feel very welcome with an offer of tea/coffee and some cake. Everywhere I looked was clean and well kept. I was shown all around and even saw some empty rooms. They have a wonderful menu and a lovely garden with plenty of wildlife to see. Everyone said good afternoon when I passed them, it is such a lovely, peaceful place, a real home from home."

"When my husband was due to move from hospital, I was so worried as I'd visited many places not too good. Shelburne Lodge was a joy to me. "My husband spent the last week of his life receiving 24 hour nursing care at Shelburne Lodge. All staff were very caring, but two team members deserve a particular mention: the deputy manager was wonderful - going well above and beyond. She was so compassionate and caring and treated my husband with the utmost dignity and respect. Nothing was ever too much trouble. She cared for our family as well as my husband and we will always remember her kindness. In addition, the maintenance manager was great. He was called upon several times to facilitate a change of room and adjustments to my husband’s bed. We found him to be friendly, efficient and very supportive. I would not hesitate to recommend Shelburne Lodge."

The staff are friendly and go out of there way to help you if you are not sure about something. The manager helped us very much in the run up to her moving in.
