Activities at Raleigh Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Kirstie Cobb

Activities Lead

I joined Barchester as a carer in 2019, and quickly realised I had a passion for helping people live their best lives. In June 2022 after a move to Exmouth, I joined the team Raleigh Manor as a carer and enjoyed helping with the activities. When the role of Activities Coordinator became available, I jumped at the chance to combine my care background with my desire to truly enrich the lives of the residents in my care.

Christmas Wreath Making

We're getting into the Christmas Spirit here at Raleigh Manor!! A wreath making workshop was held for our residents recently. They spent quality time with a loved one, enjoying mulled wine and mince pies while getting creative!!! This was a fantastic activity and was enjoyed by all. Residents and loved ones got to keep their wreaths and hang them pride of place on their front doors!!!

Raleigh Manor Gentleman's Club!

Here at Raleigh Manor we recognise that sometimes the women can out number the men. So we thought it would be a lovely idea to start a club, just for the Gentleman. This week our Gentleman fancied doing some baking, so staff members took them to the shops for the ingredients, came home, helped bake the cookies and cake, then enjoyed them whilst watching a film in our cinema. Our Care Staff thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with our Gentleman and even treated them to a nice nail file and hand massage!!! It's these moments that really do make the difference to our residents lives!!!

Hospiscare

Recently at Raleigh Manor we had a lovely visit from Lucy, our local Fundraiser for Hospiscare. Hospiscare is your local end of life adult charity, their specialist Healthcare teams care for terminally ill adults and their families in Exeter, Mid and East Devon. They have a 12 bed specialist In Patient Ward in Exeter and 3 Community buildings where their Specialist Community Palliative Nurses are based: High View in Exmouth, Kings House Day Hospice in Honiton, and Pine Lodge in Tiverton. Lucy was explaining the difficulties the charity has faced over the last year and are in great need of raising funds to keep this much needed charity going. We have seen first hand the work this wonderful team do on a daily basis and feel it's important to support locally as much as we can, we have agreed to fundraise for them by putting on some great events, so watch this space........

Residents Voice's Matter!

Raleigh Manor Residents Voice's Count!!!! Here at Raleigh Manor we make sure we listen to what our residents want, this is why Sharon our Activities Coordinator holds a monthly meeting involving our residents. This meeting is a chance to express the things our residents are looking for whilst living here. They have a chance to plan outings and talk about the type of activities they would be interested in. This is all part of Sharon's role in order to put meaningful activities together for our residents and enrich their lives with us!!

Magic!

Bringing a bit of magic to our residents!! Here at Raleigh Manor, we're always looking at ways to improve our residents' quality of life. This is why we have introduced a Magic Table into our care home, offering opportunities for those living with dementia to increase physical and social interactions and most of all fun!! Some of the benefits for our residents include: Positive effect upon well-being by improving mood, reducing apathy and restlessness, as well as increasing engagement levels. Improving engagement during family visits. Improved relationships between staff and residents by facilitating playful activities, increased positive emotions and more.
