Activities at Overslade House Care Home

Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.

At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.

We definitely have something for everyone!

Julie Bateman

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.

I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.

I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!

Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Story Time with Resident Anne

A big thank you to Paddox Primary School - Y2 Spruce Class for allowing Anne to read to them during their weekly story time. The class joined Anne and our activities coordinator Emma via Zoom for the virtual link up. Anne read them 'Lost in the Toy Museum' by David Lucas; a lovely book on loan to us from the Rugby Art Gallery & Museum. The children we're delightful and we will be repeating the experience and hopefully extending the audience group to other classes!

We're so pleased to be able to make such intergenerational links with the local community, it benefits all involved, particularly our residents who have missed seeing children within the home throughout 2020. If you know a school, nursery or group that would like to link with our residents on this type of virtual story time please contact our Activities Team E. overslade.activities@barchester.com

Christmas Stocking Craft

On the third day of Christmas... Our residents enjoyed designing their own Christmas stockings. We all sat around the table and had a wonderful time with glitter, crayons, pens, feather, the lot! With Christmas music gently playing in the background and a wintery looking day there really was a very festive feeling on The Rupert Brooke Suite this morning. The residents were so pleased with the end result, we hung neatly in a row, ready for Santa Clause!

Betty's 93rd Birthday Celebrations

We celebrated Betty’s 93rd birthday within the home. She enjoyed a visit from her family in the pods and a little party in the coffee shop after supper. Betty is a much loved resident of Overslade house and we hope she had a wonderful Birthday with us.

Betty is a long standing member of the Rugby community, moving to Rugby in 1944 (76 years ago). Betty worked as a shop assistant in Greys when she first moved to Rugby and after she married she went on to work in administration at the General Electric.

Special thanks to our second chef (Dario Mozzettini) for baking the most delicious Chocolate cake as requested by Betty!

Reminiscent Tree

We had such a lovely morning going around all the suites and asking what resident’s favourite Christmas memories/traditions were. It was so wonderful to hear all the stories of Christmases past.

Covid19 Vaccinations Start

Alma Taylor, Activities Co-ordinator at Overslade House, received the coronavirus vaccine yesterday morning making her the first member of the Overslade family to receive the vaccine!

Alma said: “It was just like any other injection, I was happy to have it to help protect our residents. The staff and nurses at University of Coventry Hospital were brilliant, friendly and efficient! I left feeling reassured with all the information I needed.”

Participating in the vaccination program is a one off chance for us all to do our part in eliminating the virus, not only from our care homes and hospitals, but from UK society in general. More of our fantastic staff will be receiving their vaccinations later today and over the next few days.

Please support us in protecting our residents, patients and each other.
