Activities at Overslade House Care Home

Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.

At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.

We definitely have something for everyone!

Julie Bateman

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.

I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.

I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!

Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Happy Burns Night

Today we have been celebrating the Birthday of Robert Burns by partaking in some traditional Burns Night activities. We had fun this morning on Memory Lane making a Scottish flag out of different materials.

This afternoon we made a “Scottish Trolley” and went around with offerings of shortbread, Whiskey and bagpipes playing on the speaker. Tonight some of our residents will enjoy a Haggis cooked by Dario, our chef, and our Resident Ambassador (Anne) will address the haggis!

Employee of the Month - January 2021

Massive congratulations to Margarita, who became our employee of the month for January. She was nominated for being; always friendly in her job and happy to help out. The residents in her care commented that Margarita always has a smile for them and keeps them fit with their regular walks to and from the cafe for coffee and chats. She was presented with her certificate and received a voucher for her achievement. Well done Margarita, we appreciate all you do!

National Squirrel Day

Did you know 21st January is National Squirrel Day? This afternoon we gathered in Memory Lane to talk about this wonderful creature. We filled feeders with nuts and seads for our outside trees, and coloured in some squirrel pictures learning different facts about them. Our residents love to watch the squirrels in our gardens so we decided to place the feeders directly in view of their bedroom windows! Hopefully they will see lots more of our furry friends! Happy National Squirrel Day!

Friendly Bench 'Valentines' preparation

Yesterday we were busy decorating light-up jars on Memory Lane. These jars are for a special project that we are preparing for. We are teaming up with “The Friendly Bench” team and the “Friends of East Rugby Group.” In the morning we had a group of residents come together to collectively write love poems for the project. We started off by brainstorming what the word “love” meant to us and then the poems came together beautifully, we are excited to share these poems with you on Valentines Day!

International Flower Day

Our residents on Memory Lane really enjoyed flower arranging this afternoon in aid of International Flower Day! When they were finished they said that they would like to gift their arrangements to the carers and nurses on the Rupert Brooke Suite to thank them for all their hard work.

Gardening Sunday

This morning we had a lovely time potting and planting the first seeds/bulbs of 2021! We potted Gladioli & Dahlia! These pots will have a very special home and we hope to see them grow and bloom come the summer months.
