Activities at Overslade House Care Home

Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.

At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.

We definitely have something for everyone!

Julie Bateman

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.

I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.

I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!

Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Life at Overslade House Care Home

Goodbye Alison

This week we said 'goodbye' to Alison Coomber, who has been part of the Overslade family for over 8 years. Alison is leaving Overslade to join another Barchester home down South to be closer to her family.

The residents and staff at Overslade House will miss Alison dearly, she's been such a key part of the team here over the years, having worked as a Senior Carer, and most recently as part of our Hospitality team.

We wish her all the best in her new Barchester home and thank her for all the years with us. Good luck & best wishes from your Overslade family. Keep in touch!

Blooming Lovely

Overslade House is in 'Bloom' thanks to our wonderful Home Administrator Helen Levine, who has, in her spare time off from work, visited to plant, weed and tend to our pots, planters, boarders and hanging baskets. She's managed to, with hard work sprinkle her magic to bring the front of house entrance alive with colour and fragrance.

We'd like to say a massive THANK YOU to Helen for your green-fingered skills in making us all smile with this 'blooming' beautiful display which welcomes everyone on arriving at the home.

NCS Team Volunteers - Garden Project

We're so pleased to announce that Overslade House care home have been chosen by the National Citizen Service - NCS to be joined by a super team of hardworking and creative young people who will be revamping one of our Rupert Brooke suite gardens as part of their Summer 2021 - Social Action Project.

NCS exists to engage, unite and empower young people, building their confidence so they can go out there and achieve their dreams, no matter where they’re from or what their background is. From the life skills they develop to the friends they make, our ambition is clear – we want to give teenagers an opportunity to unleash their potential, to build their self-belief and get them prepped for life after school.

Founded in 2009 to help young people achieve their potential and build bridges between communities. Our volunteer students were from various schools in Rugby and this amazing team worked so hard on clearing, weeding and chopping back, they had some super ideas on how to improve the garden space to make it extra special for our residents, particularly those living with dementia.

The group wanted to make the area bright and inviting for our residents and the local wildlife; birds and mini beasts. They did all the work themseleves even fundraising for this project. They choose and purchased plants, paints and decorative items to bring their designs to life! The team managed to receive wonderful donations from Homebase, Wickes and The Range in Rugby.

We can't thank the group enough, the garden looks fabulous, our residents will certainly enjoy spending time out there once the weather improves.
