Activities at Overslade House Care Home

The residents and staff at Overslade House wish to send a massive THANK YOU to the riders from Nene Valley Hog Chapter for making our Sunday so special. We were all thrilled to hear the thunderous roar of 20+ Harley Davidson’s enter the home grounds on Sunday.

Residents, visiting relatives and staff all got involved with the spirit of the 'Overslade H.O.G. Fest' dancing and singing along with the riders to songs from local singer Thea Watson, as the sun shone across the gleaming chrome on each bike and trike.

The Nene Valley Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) Chapter was formed in 2001 and is one of hundreds of Chapters around the world. Our residents were treated to a full run down of each bike, as the members explained the story of their bikes individual artwork and the power of each engine.

The Harley Owners Group is a worldwide organisation and Chapters are sponsored by a Harley Davidson dealership to enable a Chapter to exist.

Martin Dickinson, Director of the Nene Valley Chapter and founder of Ride-To-The-Wall; an annual event held in October at the National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield in Staffordshire, to remember those who have lost their lives in conflict said; The Nene Valley H.O.G. members jumped at the chance to ride-out and meet with the residents of Overslade House. “It’s always a pleasure to hear the memories of an older generation, many of who had motorbikes themselves in their younger days.”

Violeta Baesu, Senior General Manager at Overslade House care home, said; “This has been a huge amount of fun and the bikes and riders sparked a lot of memories for residents, we can’t thank the Chapter enough for making today such a ‘Super Sunday’!.

Ann Fletcher, Resident Ambassador at the home said; “We have all had a magical day, the riders were so friendly, seeing our home manager astride one of the Harley’s is a moment we will treasure forever!” John Allwood, a resident from our Webb Ellis suite had a wonderful conversation about seeing his first Lea-Francis 1929 motorbike in 1987 which was, at the time owned by the club chairman.

Our residents just love linking up weekly with Miss Stock's Y2 class at Paddox Primary School over zoom. It’s such a wonderful intergenerational session, enjoyed by the children and our residents alike. With the school holidays about to begin, our residents have decided to keep reading!

Over the coming weeks we will start prerecording some ‘story time’ sessions that can be viewed at any time by parents and their little ones. We will post a link to each recording and would love your feedback over the coming weeks.

Another great 'good morning - wake & shake' with Zumba Fitness with Kerstin. Our residents enjoy her classes so much, they're up and gathering their pom-poms before breakfast is over!

Our feathered friends have been munching through the feeders; today a few of our wonderful residents took time in the sun to replenish them with peanuts, suet and seeds. We look forward to seeing which dining experience the visiting birds prefer?

Our residents and staff at Overslade House have been cheering on their home sides throughout the Euros. The home has been decked out with flags and residents have been enjoying all the action over the past four weeks. Everyone at the home has loved seeing Gareth’s boys progress so far.

Fans of the beautiful game at Overslade were delighted to be able to watch this year’s fixtures after the disappointment of last year’s tournament having to be postponed. We've had a brilliant time getting together to watch the matches and celebrated the final with footie-inspired cupcakes whipped up by head chef.

Violeta Baesu, General Manager at the home, said: “We have loved watching the Euros, we have watched pretty much all the matches – lots of our residents are footie fans. It has been fantastic to be able to cheer on all the home sides and especially England, we did amazingly well to get to the final.”

Resident, Robert, commented: “Although we didn’t win tonight, it has been a brilliant few weeks of football. The lads did us proud and made it all the way to the final, they played their hearts out. At least we haven’t got long to wait until the World Cup next year!”

Beautiful Dorothy turned 86 on 1st July. She's such a tender and loving lady, on receiving her very special fresh cream, strawberry and chocolate flake cake made by Chef, Dorothy couldn't resist giving Senior Nurse Genoveva a great big thank you hug - Happy birthday Dorothy from all at Overslade House.
