Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oak Grange Care Home

Royal Wedding Celebrations

Royal Wedding Celebrations

We had a wonderful time celebrating the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry & Meghan Markle,

Everyone had a posh hat and a flower corsage and we watched the whole event live with a buffet lunch, so we didn't miss a thing.

We enjoyed a glass of bubbly to raise a cheer to the happy couple. In the afternoon, we had a party in the garden with live saxophone music from Sue Walker; and our Head Chef, Paul, made a delicious elderflower and lemon cake especially for us.

Everyone said it was such a wonderful day and we felt as if we were almost there!

Coronation Celebration

We Celebrated the Queen’s 65th anniversary of her coronation by inviting one of her Prime Ministers for afternoon tea,

Mr. & Mrs. Winston Churchill joined us and chatted to everyone, and we even had a speech. There was plenty of tea and homemade scones with strawberries, jam & cream. Then we had a champagne toast to Her Majesty and sang 'God Save the Queen'.

Country Wedding

Country Wedding

We were invited to a country wedding by our friends at the Norley Church. We had a wonderful afternoon, and were made to feel so welcome. The local children came to sing, and helped us make a bookmark each. Then we had a lovely homemade afternoon tea and indulged in some wedding cake.

Royal Arts & Crafts

Royal Arts & Crafts

We are very excited about the royal wedding, the new royal baby and the 65th Anniversary of the Queen’s coronation, so we have decided to host royally-themed arts & crafts afternoons, where we make collages for our royal display tables.

April Activities

Sandra Currie came to entertain us on the Queen's birthday. We also had some birthdays of our own to celebrate, which made for a really jolly morning. We love to dance and sing along with Sandra; she knows just what we love! The day of celebrations was rounded off with a performance from the Oak Grange Choir, who performed some of our favourite songs, along with a rendition of 'God Save the Queen', of course.

We had a lovely surprise from from a bird of prey, who joined us with its keeper, Pam.

We really enjoy our quiz evenings and, with the bar trolley, it's a real social event, where friends and family often join us. We were also joined by Duke of Edinburgh students, who stop by each week and help out with the questions.

Gardening Week

We went to visit Ness Gardens at the beginning of National Gardening Week for inspiration. We had lunch there and chatted about colour schemes for this year’s garden, settling on red, white and blue, in honour of all the special royal events happening this year.

The very next day, we planted geraniums, blue petunias and small white, trailing flowers.

To round off the week, we did a spot of weeding in our raised bed garden, which is so easy to reach from a wheelchair.
