Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oak Grange Care Home

Chester Literature Festival

Chester Literature Festival

We had a night at the Storyhouse in Chester, where poet and national treasure, Pam Ayres, gave us two hours of laughter and reminiscence. Residents love her poems and can recite them by heart, and they always bring a smile,

How nice to be a part of the Literary Festival in Chester

Honouring the Fallen

Musical entertainment with a 'remembrance' theme was held on Monday 12th November, with lots of lovely songs from the 1920-1940s, which were sung by Sheena and a special last post from Alan on the trumpet.

The Oak Grange Choir put on a wonderful performance during our remembrance gathering service on 9th November for all our families and friends – it was very moving. Two Oak Grange residents have lived through two world wars, and they were part of the wreath-laying ceremony, laying poppy wreaths on our table of remembrance to the sound of the last post.

We sang 'I Vow to Thee My Country', 'God Save the Queen', 'Amazing Grace' 'Jerusalem' and a medley of songs connected to wartime, and all of our visitors were presented with a homemade poppy from residents. We then finished with a sherry toast.

It ws a lovely, reflective afternoon to mark such an important date.

Fallen for the Fallen

We travelled around our local village of Upton with local Councillor, Jill Houlbrook and Andy Scargill, Vice Chair of the Friends of Chester Country Park, to give us a guided tour and talk all about their poppy trail, 'Fallen for the Fallen', which marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1. Residents were very interested in how all the poppies have a local soldier's name attached.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Residents at Oak Grange were so impressed with the local pumpkin people in our surrounding villages when we went for a drive around that we decided to make our own folk to join us.

We created Bernard and Bernadette from spare clothes, newspaper, pumpkins and paint. They are now sat happily outside, welcoming visitors, and offering them some delicious chocolates.

International Day of Older Persons

International Day of Older Persons

Local children from St Oswald's Primary School were invited to join us for dominoes, pool, cats cradle, old maid, noughts and crosses, and to fly model aeroplanes. We also enjoyed some afternoon tea together. As you can see, we all had a really lovely afternoon together, sharing games that everyone could play.
