Activities at North Park Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Claire Liddy

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Claire, and I am Lead Activities Coordinator at North Park. I have 15 years’ experience in the role, three years at North Park and absolutely love my job. I like to involve the local community in events within the home, so we have connections with local churches, schools and community groups. We have a PAT dog that visits weekly, so our residents can enjoy pet therapy, and lots of external entertainers, who come into the home regularly as well; in addition to fairs, monthly coffee morning and so much more.

Life at North Park Care Home

Back to School

Staff at North Park thought it would be a nice idea to mark the return to school for children in England this week. Residents have been able to chat over the phone and skype with their grandchildren and great grandchildren every day for the past six months whilst the schools have been closed, and we know our residents will miss this connection until the next school holidays.

Members of staff came to work in what can only be describes as an assortment of uniforms’,  ‘pigtails’ and ‘freckled’ faces to celebrate the occasion.

Residents enjoyed jokes which had been sent in by Primary School aged children, school quizzes and reminisced about their days at school. Of course memories of ‘The Nitty Nurse’ visit brought groans as did the PE lessons in the school yard. Doreen said it had been such an enjoyable morning with Jessie adding “oh this has brought back so many happy memories, it’s been great”

Fruity Fridays!

There is always plenty of fresh fruit for residents to enjoy throughout the day and Residents of North Park look their fruity Friday morning breakfasts. Along with the daily breakfast menu Friday is fast becoming known as Fruity Friday when the homes hospitality team prepare platters of delicious seasonal fresh fruit for residents to enjoy.

Residents are very much enjoying sampling the different tastes and textures while enjoying a leisurely  chats with their dining companions in their social bubbles.

World Chocolate Day tasting

Residents of North Park enjoyed a chocolatey treat as they celebrated World Chocolate Day.  Residents enjoyed sampling all different types of chocolate and the different flavours with Residents, Doreen and Laura admitting they were chocoholics!

Doreen said there was no chocolate she did not like. However, Laura said, with a mischievous laugh, when she gets a box of chocolates she takes the ones out she likes and offers the nutty and coffee flavours around to family and friends….

Let me entertain you!

Resident, Cliff brought his guitar to North Park when he moved in last year, since then Cliff has kept residents and staff alike entertaining everyone with his spur-of-the-moment gatherings while encouraging everyone to enjoy a sing song.

Cliff put one of his impromptu performances on one beautifully sunny and warm afternoon in the homes garden to the delight of everyone!

Games afternoon

Residents didn’t let the bad weather ruin their plans for a games afternoon, as they simply moved indoors for a fun filled afternoon of target games.

Resident, Kathleen said she ‘had once been a master at Quoits’, playing the game with her children at home in their garden when they had been small and trying to win prizes when the fair came to town.

Kathleen had everyone laughing as she said those days were far behind her as she cheated her way through the afternoon!  Margaret won the prize for highest score over the afternoon with her skill at the target games but was happy to share her After Eights with everyone as she said it had been a very enjoyable afternoon.

Aloha Hawaii

Residents enjoyed a day of laughter as they held a Hawaiian style party. With the sun shining brightly there was no better place to hold the party but in the homes lovely garden decorated with palm trees, paddling pools as Tropical Island beach music and songs played in the background.

Residents donned flower garlands and Hawaiian hula grass skirts with Resident, Neil getting into the spirit of the day and wearing his best grass skirt. Everyone enjoyed tasting the tropical fruit kebabs with refreshing pineapple and coconut based mock tails and cocktails. Everyone agreed it had been a fantastic day!
