Activities at North Park Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Claire Liddy

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Claire, and I am Lead Activities Coordinator at North Park. I have 15 years’ experience in the role, three years at North Park and absolutely love my job. I like to involve the local community in events within the home, so we have connections with local churches, schools and community groups. We have a PAT dog that visits weekly, so our residents can enjoy pet therapy, and lots of external entertainers, who come into the home regularly as well; in addition to fairs, monthly coffee morning and so much more.

Life at North Park Care Home

Keeping Fit

Residents have been enjoying evening keep fit classes followed by guided meditation to help keep their fitness levels up and help them relax before bed time. Many residents who take part in this have reported an increase in their physical well-being and say they are having a better night’s sleep.

Birthday Celebrations

Geoffrey celebrated his 103rd birthday on 30th September. He spent the afternoon with family, friends, residents and staff, where he hosted a tea party with sandwiches, cakes and wine.

Geoff is a popular resident and received many cards and gifts on his big day, and blew his candles out in one go. When asked what his wish was, he replied with: “I can’t tell you that or it won’t come true”.

Geoff was over the moon when two of the Darlington Borough Councillors came to bid him a happy birthday and brought him a bottle of his favourite wine to help him celebrate.

Gardening Project

Gardening Project

Before coming to North Park, Bernard used to have a large allotment where he grew a multitude of beautiful flowers and vegetables.

Bernard takes pride in our gardens and floral displays, he can be seen daily at this time of year out tending to the plants and dead heading them so they will come back as beautiful next year.

Resident Shares Memories

Resident Shares Memories

Geoff, Resident at North Park recently had a wonderful afternoon with a group of students who visited the home. Geoff told them of his exploits while serving in the RAF, showing them pictures of places he had visited whilst they enthusiastically  asked questions and listened to his stories.

They were surprised when he told them about his time as a ‘TV star’ when he appeared on Britain’s 100 year old drivers and were amazed when he informed them he was now the ripe old age of 102. It is wonderful when our residents share their remarkable stories with all of us.

International Balloon Fiesta

International Balloon Fiesta

Residents at North Park had their own idea how to celebrate the International Balloon Fiesta. Some residents donned balloon headwear, while others had balloon animals or sculptures. It was a fun day!
