Activities at North Park Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Claire Liddy

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Claire, and I am Lead Activities Coordinator at North Park. I have 15 years’ experience in the role, three years at North Park and absolutely love my job. I like to involve the local community in events within the home, so we have connections with local churches, schools and community groups. We have a PAT dog that visits weekly, so our residents can enjoy pet therapy, and lots of external entertainers, who come into the home regularly as well; in addition to fairs, monthly coffee morning and so much more.

Aloha Hawaii

Residents enjoyed a day of laughter as they held a Hawaiian style party. With the sun shining brightly there was no better place to hold the party but in the homes lovely garden decorated with palm trees, paddling pools as Tropical Island beach music and songs played in the background.

Residents donned flower garlands and Hawaiian hula grass skirts with Resident, Neil getting into the spirit of the day and wearing his best grass skirt. Everyone enjoyed tasting the tropical fruit kebabs with refreshing pineapple and coconut based mock tails and cocktails. Everyone agreed it had been a fantastic day!

Birthday celebrations

Resident, John celebrated his birthday in style surrounded by staff and friends in the home who presented him with a delicious home-made chocolate birthday cake.  During the celebrations, John a lifelong resident of Darlington and keen footballer who played for Ferryhill Athletic and Crook Town regaled his guests with entertaining stories of his time spent playing for the club,

John was over the moon with the gift he received off his family and proudly showed it off while residents enjoyed a slice of his birthday cake and toasted him with a glass of wine.

Clare Liddy, activities coordinator said: “It was a lovely afternoon which was enjoyed by everyone and it was nice that John could share his day with all the other residents and the staff made sure his birthday celebrations were spectacular!”

Wor Vera

Residents of North Park were delighted to have a socially distanced visit from popular North East performer, ‘Wor Vera’ on VE day who performed outside the home to sing a medley of war time songs. Residents watched from their windows waving flags and singing along with her.  Neighbours  ventured out of their homes and enjoyed the show from their own front gardens. As the final notes … We’ll Meet Again … could be heard there was a tremendous round of applause from everyone in and around  North Park with Resident, Jessie commenting “This is what it is all about! this is why I’m proud to be British”.

Special Valentine’s Day Celebration

North Park Care Home hosted a romantic Valentine’s Day Meal for residents and their partners. Tables were set with pristine white table cloths and were decorated with red chocolate hearts and chocolate roses. Centrepieces comprised of tea light holders in stands full of beautiful scented rose petals and adorned with delicate illuminated hearts.

Head Chef Kevin cooked up a scrumptious feast and desert was individual heart shaped shortbread filled  with strawberries and cream and topped with a heart shaped sponge. With the lights dimmed, soft music playing in the background and a choice of pink or white Champaign our couples dined in romantic style.
