Activities at North Park Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Claire Liddy

Lead Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Claire, and I am Lead Activities Coordinator at North Park. I have 15 years’ experience in the role, three years at North Park and absolutely love my job. I like to involve the local community in events within the home, so we have connections with local churches, schools and community groups. We have a PAT dog that visits weekly, so our residents can enjoy pet therapy, and lots of external entertainers, who come into the home regularly as well; in addition to fairs, monthly coffee morning and so much more.

Life at North Park Care Home

Show and Tell

Residents enjoyed a trip down Memory Lane with a morning of show and tell. Residents chose from various household items to tell others what they remembered about them and how they were utilised, this in turn encouraged others to join in with sharing their memories. The nutcrackers brought about many stories of ‘flying nuts’ when they would escape the crackers intact! Conversations carried on over tea and biscuits with different members of staff joining in with questions and stories of their own.

National Story Telling Week

National Storytelling Week started well at North Park where our residents enjoyed their day listening to stories read by the children of staff. Whether it was by video chat, zoom or pre-recorded, residents thoroughly  enjoyed their time today engrossing themselves in fantasy worlds of adventure such as Gangster Granny, Horrible Histories and Bad Hair Day. Kathleen commented "Oh wasn't that wonderful" when her video story ended.

Musical therapy

This morning Residents enjoyed an impromptu musical therapy session whilst preparing for Australia Day themed activities as Joyce handed out percussion instruments to some of her fellow residents.

Joyce then asked for some lively ‘upbeat’ music to be played in the background which we were more than willing to provide.  Joyce proceeded to lead residents in a fun filled morning of laughter and  frivolity. When she had finished 93 year old Joyce said “there now, that’s it, I am retiring now, bye” as she left giggling.

Burns capers at North Park

Residents at North Park celebrated Burns night with a supper of haggis, neaps and tatties. Our two Scottish residents then donned their tartan scarves and caps before they and other residents, enjoying a virtual show by the 6th Battalion, Royal Scots. Raising a glass of Single Malt Scotch Whisky while they listened to 'Address to a Haggis' by Robert Burns being delivered in a broad Scottish lilt.

Flower fun for International Flower Day

Residents enjoyed a morning of 'posy' making as part of the homes celebration of International Flower Day.  The posies will be displayed around the home for everyone to enjoy the colourful creations.

Keeping Busy

North Park resident, Kathleen, enjoys keeping herself busy. Kathleen can regularly be found lending a helping hand to staff from all departments.

Kathleen had worked in a care home herself after raising her family and always says how much she enjoyed the work and found it rewarding.

After meals, Kathleen can usually be found wiping down the tables and chairs while chatting to the housekeepers.
