Activities at Newton House Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Newton House Care Home

Virtual Tour of Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Animal mischief as we visit the farm

Newton House Care Home, in Grantham, was full of animal mischief on Tuesday when our residents visited the farm at Kesteven Ridability at Hough on the Hill.

Residents at Newton House Care Home were pleasantly surprised to see animals such as Horses, Geese and Rabbits roaming around the grounds during our visit to Hough on the Hill

Strawberry picking at Syston

This morning we had a bus ride out to Syston Park Farm Shop and Cafe to pick some delicious strawberries.

It was a wonderful morning and encouraged lots of different conversations based around gardening, working on the land and also baking.

Once we’d weighed in our punnets, it was time for a well earned cup of tea and snack. Gill loved the fact that the farm shop use fresh tea leafs and Vonnie said “corrr now that’s a good cuppa”

This afternoon residents joined together from most communities for friendship group in the coffee lounge and enjoyed our freshly picked strawberries.

Tomorrow we will be using them to make residents favourite “fruit kebabs”

Animal Therapy at Newton House

There were smiles all around this morning with an incredible visit from DB Animal Therapy. Charlotte bought with her some fascinating animals including Roger the Chameleon, Sonny the Snake and Curly the Tarantula.
It was beautiful to see how much joy, each animal brought to residents and the interaction was just wonderful.

Animals are an excellent way of providing a non verbal form of communication, increasing a feeling of belonging and wellbeing whilst promoting relaxation and sensory elements.

We all learnt lots of fun facts about each animal, and everyone had the welcomed opportunity for snuggles and even Curly the Tarantula was loved and residents were fascinated by him.

Michelle will be returning in September to Newton House with her incredible pets for another animal sensory visit.

Who Wants To Be a Millionaire

Our residents and colleagues came together for an afternoon of fun and laughter using the latest technology to offer games, visits to exotic locations and to keep in touch with family and friends.

Residents have been enjoying a series of classic favourite games including dominoes, scrabble, bubbles and other sensory touch activities.

A firm favourite is 'Who Wants To Be a Millionaire' based on the classic quiz show, which has seen our home enjoy many hours of trivia and discussion.
