Activities at Newton House Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Newton House Care Home

Harrogate Chocolate Factory

We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.

Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.

The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.

A fond farewell after almost three decades

After almost 3 decades of continuous service at Newton House much-loved housekeeper, Sue has decided to retire. Staff and residents at the home sent Sue off in style with presents to thank her for her 28 years of dedication and a huge party with lots of singing and dancing. Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Sue and she will be sadly missed.

During her time at Newton House, Sue has made a big difference to the home and the life of its residents. Her work was always completed to a high standard and she always ensured residents were happy.

Sue said: “Newton House is like a family to me and though I’m looking forward to retirement, I’m really going to miss everyone here so much!”

Beat The Clock

We continue to celebrate a varied life enrichment programme and across our services we linked up with other Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.

Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

World Book Day at Poplar Farm School

A fantastic start to our world book day celebrations, with a visit to see our fabulous friends at Poplar Farm School. The children & staff looked incredible with their amazing world book day costumes, & our residents really enjoyed reading to the children their favourite books.

Our residents were delighted to be invited to their singing assembly, seeing the children having so much fun with their teachers was a joy to watch. Vonny said “it was fantastic seeing everyone looking so good and the singing made me feel very happy, I loved clapping along”

Thank you so much to Poplar Farm School for allowing us to share such a special morning with you and your wonderful pupils.

Mini Bus Trip To Our Local Cafe

Some of our lovely ladies were thoroughly delighted with a bus trip out down town, for coffee & cake. Firstly we enjoyed exploring the high street admiring the latest fashions including handbags & clothes before heading down to the cafe to enjoy some delicious refreshments.

We all enjoyed some lovely conversations about how Joan had a lovely little white Westie called “Ben” and how her husband Geoff would walk him daily.

Jean said “thank you so much for taking us out today, it’s been great especially as I’ve never been here before”

London Ladies

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.

Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.

Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.
