Activities at Newton House Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

A musical spectacular ..

In-Voice choir visited our wonderful residents, such an amazing event for residents to come together to enjoy such a beautiful performance.

In-Voice was formed towards the end of 2017, performing various styles of music including; popular, classical, folk and jazz & is headed by musical director Jenny. Jenny also writes many of their incredible & fun songs.

Peter was delighted & said ‘I was in the Newark Choir for many years & this has just brought it all back to me - that was wonderful’.
Betty said of their performance ‘they were absolutely fantastic, I enjoyed every moment of that”

A seated exercise sensation

Residents welcomed back the lovely Lynsey from Grantham College & University Centre for their next session of seated exercise. With gentle exercise & ball movement to music, the residents had a wonderful time.

Vonny said “ well that certainly blew the cobwebs off” as Margaret laughed with her.

Picnic and Games

Such a fun & fabulous morning with the amazing Poplar Farm School, visiting Newton House for a fun picnic & play session.
As soon as our Poplar friends walked through the doors on Memory Lane, there were smiles all around,& residents couldn’t wait to get outdoors and join in the fun.

With connect 4, football, target game, giant dominoes & lots more, the garden was full of laughter & happiness.
Whilst we went indoors due to a little shower, we were treated to a very special performance of “We’re going on a bear hunt”
Catherine said “that was very special to see”. It was then time to head back outside for a picnic time before we finished the session with more fun & games. The joy on our wonderful residents faces, was just so beautiful to see & it’s fair to say that they are very much looking forward to seeing them all again

Charity Cook Off

Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.

Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life.  Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

Pride Month

This June, staff and residents have been creating decorations, festooning their home with rainbows and enjoying the colourful celebrations from around the world.  Lots of the festivities from different parts of the UK and from around the world are available to watch online and residents have had a fantastic time experiencing the different parades and carnivals on offer.

Sonia Fairhurst, General Manager at the home, said: “Our residents love to watch all kinds of different shows and performances so the diversity offered by Pride Month has been perfect – there is something for everyone. It is so lovely to have the home decorated with rainbows, it makes us so happy to join in with the inclusivity of Pride Month.”

Virtual trip to Eden Project

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time exploring the Eden Project virtually - an educational charity and visitor attraction based in Cornwall, featuring sprawling outdoor gardens and breathtaking biomes that house the largest indoor rainforest in the world.

During the session, residents who joined were reconnected with nature through their senses, memories and stories.  A big thank you to the community team at the Eden Project for the wonderful event.
