What our families say

During the week I spent at Newton House of all the activities team were extremely passionate about the welfare and health of the residents and went to great lengths to entertain and involve everybody. The team’s commitment speaks about Newton House’s dedication as a whole to helping all people to be happy and fulfilled individuals and I would highly recommend either volunteering or staying at Newton House.

Karen, Jill, Sabrina and Amanda are all AMAZING. The care and dedication that they extend to all residents is above expectations and this is reflected in the wellbeing of all. People’s physical and mental health is put at the forefront of all activities, which are always fun and engaging. I loved spending time with them all and truly believe that they are the best at their jobs.

Newton house has been a welcoming place to the people that I know that have moved in. The staff are friendly and attentive and they have an excellent array of well thought out activities. They work with the community to achieve the best for the residents and people visiting, for example they play host to a young carers club and regularly host social events.

Volunteered here recently, and it's been an absolute pleasure seeing how hard the staff truly work! In particular, Sabrina, Amanda, Jill and Karen (who organize the activities for the residents) were awesome to work with. I'd say residents here are looked after really well and the activities that they do are always well thought out for example, We made sausage rolls one day (which was really engaging) and then did bingo later that day. You can honestly see the difference it makes for the residents and it gives them something to look forward to. I look forward to volunteering here again at some point in the future, and maybe making another sausage roll or two!

I can’t say enough good things about Barchester Newton House. The staff here are absolutely amazing—the kindest, most caring people I’ve ever been around. They go above and beyond to make sure residents feel comfortable, valued, and well looked after. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it’s clear that everyone genuinely cares about the wellbeing of those in their care. I’d highly recommend Newton House to anyone looking for a place where their loved ones will be treated with compassion and respect. Truly outstanding!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Newton House in Grantham, I was hosting a wellness event there. I was genuinely moved by the warmth and care shown by the staff. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was welcomed with a friendly smile, and made to feel very welcome and completely at home.
The team at Newton House are nothing short of amazing – kind, compassionate, and truly dedicated to the wellbeing of every resident. It’s clear that each member of staff genuinely cares and goes above and beyond to create a nurturing, friendly, and respectful environment.
The atmosphere throughout the home is uplifting and positive, with a real sense of community. The residents were relaxed and happy, and it was lovely to see so many meaningful interactions and moments of joy.
Newton House is a beautiful, inspirational place that sets a high standard for what excellent care should look like. It’s not just a care home – it’s a place filled with joy. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a warm and supportive environment for their loved one. Thank you for having me.

"I found the staff very friendly and Professional from management and admin to nursing and the care team. My Mother was there for respite care for a week and thoroughly enjoyed her time. If I have one observation it is that whilst I was given brochures on first enquiring several months ago I had to chase a couple of times to check details. I feel that admission information could be more comprehensive especially for first timers for example, how to ID mark clothing. This is an observation not a complaint."

"Staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and very helpful. There was a wide range of activities daily to suit varying interests and abilities available for residents to attend if they wanted to, staff did try and encourage this. According to my mother the food was exceptional, she enjoyed every meal. Her room was always clean and tidy as were the lounges that I went into and corridors. All in all a very pleasant experience, my mother enjoyed her stay. Thank you to a hard working dedicated staff team."

"From the moment I walked in the doors, we were greeted by lovely staff. The home smelt nice and the furnishings are cosy. Mum said the meals were so good with plenty of variety each day. The one thing that stood out for me was the Entertainment. Absolutely outstanding and much fun. The staff are amazing. Newton House has restored my faith in Care Homes. 5*."

"This place and the staff are just amazing! My nan was only in there for a week before Christmas before she passed on Boxing Day, but the care was second to none and the staff looked after us, especially with family members staying as we knew time was running out for Nan. The care and compassion of the staff was brilliant and one in particular was amazing. The place is clean and well organized. Couldn't have wished for a better place for my lovely nan to spend her last days. A huge thank you to everyone who cared for and supported my nan and us as family."

"Until lockdown, I would have described this as a happy place and excellent all round. Sadly, lack of staff has made things uncomfortable, both for personnel and residents, with carers sometimes near breaking point. On that account, I am sorry to lower the score. However, full marks for keeping us safe to date in the pandemic."

"I just wanted to express my heartfelt thanks to you and your teams for everything you do for my mum, on Westgate. I have been able to visit her on 2 occasions now, with a weekly rolling visit and FaceTime planned from hereon in. It has been an extremely difficult time for us as a family, as we have always had Mum come home to us every 2nd weekend or so. She lived with us for 10 years prior to her dementia becoming unsafe for her to be left alone whilst we were at work, and so for her not to be able to do this with us has been deeply distressing for all of us. Your team has, as always, been so very kind and considerate to Mum's evergrowing needs. It is wonderful to see the genuine love, care and tenderness that your team displays towards her. This is extremely comforting to see (from a 3-meter social distance) as I cannot yet give her a very much longed-for hug. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

"I could not fault the staff, friendly, helpful. They were often understaffed and they had to move between the blocks which was not ideal with Covid. Food was good but meals were too close together for me. Three times I had no toilet paper, once I really needed it and had to ring. The shower head made it difficult to take a shower. The TV was too low as the bed end blocked it. Staff had to put it on a box. It would have made sense to mount it to the wall."

"Since my mother was first admitted to Newton House, I cannot speak highly enough of the care she had received. The staff is without fail, cheerful, helpful, and compassionate. They encourage her to take part in activities without pushing her and are always willing to go that little bit further. We have felt confident that she is in the best place possible at this stage of her life, and have no regrets about her move to Newton House; traumatic for all of us. The staff has gone above and beyond, and we are forever grateful. Thank you so very much."

"My wife was moved to Newton House in early May. She has Alzheimer's but due to neglect in another home, she had lost a lot of weight in a short time and developed serious pressure sores. The astonishing care that she received from the nurses and other staff has resulted in weight gain and finally the healing of the pressure sores. Above all, they have kept me informed with good news and were not afraid to tell me straight if it was not so good. I thought I would never see my wife out of bed again, but on my last visit, she was in a wheelchair. Although she does not communicate she has a smile on her face and looks content. The three young ladies who were looking after her were so kind to her (and me), apparently, she is going to have a Chinese meal soon - a sweet and sour chicken should go down well. The care that my wife has received was exceptional and a tribute to the management and staff. Thank you all and bless you for saving her life and giving a real lady some peace and dignity."

"Just wanted to pass on our thanks to all the staff at Newton House. Without exception all the staff my dad has had looking after him since he transferred to Newton House in July have been exceptional. This has meant that my dad has settled in and trusts staff to look after him, a major achievement that was never really fulfilled at his last home. Staff really go out of their way to get to know residents and do the best to provide what a resident enjoys. Although a small thing like having a bath may seem to us, it’s a lovely experience for my dad and now the staff know he enjoys this, they try and work it into their timing as much as possible. My dad always looks well cared for, he has always taken great care of his appearance and staff ensure that this remains the same, this brings comfort to my mum also. When we call staff are always helpful, supportive and respectful, and eager to accommodate both my dad’s needs and those of his family. Could not ask for more, thank you."

"Since Covid-19 came along I have been unable to see my mother in person. To view her condition, to offer her my affection and to be involved in her day to day life. This has been a hard adjustment as previously we had weekly visits and daily phone calls. I have had to put my faith in the staff of this care home, at a genuinely frightening time not only in terms of the world crisis but also at a time when my mother's condition has massively deteriorated. I know it was the right choice because of how well physically and emotionally she seems there. The staff I have spoken and video called with seem so overwhelmingly positive and their welcoming and chatty warmth reassures me that they are doing their best for my mum. It means the world to me."

"It’s been a difficult year for everyone but my comfort has been knowing that Mum is genuinely cared for in Newton. Whenever I see her on video calls she is clean and tidy and smiling and I know she has the best care. The team that deals directly with Mum are wonderful and go over and above to make life as comfortable, safe and fun for her! They all deserve medals."

"Unfortunately, nearly the last 12 months have been a washout and so sad. My mum's had a few falls through lockdown but I can't fault the carers keeping me informed on this, the only thing that upsets me is I live over an hour away and in lockdown, despite not being able to visit Mum, I had a call in the evening to go to the hospital where Mum was taken. She was left on her own strapped to a stretch board for over 5 hours (that's not the care home's fault) but I thought a carer would have had to go with her as Mum doesn't have full mental compacity, and with visits stopped I was surprised I was even asked to go. On a positive note, I cannot fault the home, it's clean and the carers are very friendly; my mum's contented for sure. My mum always looks clean washed etc. The staff always make you feel welcome, I love the activities team, always chatty and always updating us when we visited. Through lockdown, one lady has been a superstar. I can't thank her enough for updates and video calls - you have helped me through this."

"In these challenging times, I have found all the staff to be very caring. We have been kept informed, at every stage, about their plans to keep everyone safe and their approach to Mum's care. Although we haven’t always been able to visit in person, we have been able to see Mum, latterly via video call. She is being well looked after by the nursing and care staff and entertained with a multitude of activities by the activities team. Thank you, everyone, for looking after my mum so well."

"It's been so difficult during the covid-19 pandemic. My Mum went into care at the very beginning of lockdown so it's been very hard not seeing her in her new residence. However, the staff who I have spoken to or had contact with seem very caring with regard to my Mum's wellbeing. Every time I have enquired for information, the staff were well informed and honest about what they were telling me. They were also very friendly and have been great at enabling video calls using their own personal phones to do this. I'm sure everyone there has had to work unbelievably hard to provide quality care whilst making it as safe as possible for the residents. (My review is based on my overall impression of the home from phone and video calls as I have so far been unable to visit in person due to the restrictions of the pandemic.)"

"The care home staff have been great at arranging video chats with mum regularly ever since lockdown has made visiting in person impossible for the time being. This has been happening with several family members frequently. I would like to personally thank the staff involved in this. I think this care and attention to detail has made a real difference in how happy and settled mum has been in the home."

"I would like to recommend this care home. All the staff are a very committed team, and dedicated professionals, with a very very high standard towards all the residents. We have seen all the love and care that they give to our love ones. If they need anything, it will be provided, without any problem. We like to thank all the castle gate team for all the hard work that they do, and a special thanks to one lady and the team for sending photos and updates about the care home and activities, (if you have a loved one and need to find special care with love and an excellent team), then, Barchester Newton is the one for you, make time and go for a look round; it's amazing!"

"My wife and I paid two visits to Newton House in May on our way up to and back from Scotland. The first was arranged beforehand, the second was not, being in the spur of the moment. The staff could not have been more kind and helpful on both occasions. We were allowed to see our (having passed lateral flow tests) 90-year-old aunt in the same room without a plastic barrier and able to share lunch and coffee with her. The Activities Coordinator was especially understanding on the first occasion as were her colleagues (whose names we did not get) on the second. Congratulations to all of them."

"In 2020 my husband had a massive brain bleed which left him with vascular dementia. Finding a care home near to me was not a difficult choice. I had heard great things about Newton House and the staff from friends. This year on his birthday, he has now been a resident for over 12 months, the staff decorated the family room with balloons and garlands and brought us a delicious cake with candles for him to blow out. They allowed our little dogs to join in the party. The staff went out of their way to make my husbands birthday special. A big thank you to all the wonderful staff. You are amazing."

"We are very happy with the service provided by Newton House. After an experience with another home that was simply not geared up to deal with the challenges of dementia, we have been so happy and relieved to find Newton House. The staff provide caring and professional help for all aspects of my mum’s needs. At times her behaviour can be very challenging but they deal with it effectively and reassuringly. The regular activities are excellent and my mum really enjoys them. They are well organised and everyone seems to have a great time. "Overall I can’t fault the care home. The care team are very good, and some really do go above and beyond which has been lovely. The ward nurses we have seen have been good apart from a couple of occasions we have had issues with meds which have really disrupted mum’s pain when there’s been no need for it to be delayed, but discussions about these times have been dealt with. The night team was fantastic! The entertainment team, mum is bed-bound and hasn’t joined in much, but their visits to her room and interaction with us as a family have been fantastic, asking if I’m ok always happy to chat with us. Same with the front desk staff as I visit every day I’m always greeted every morning and again always asked if I need anything, despite being here every day. The cleaning staff are great, sorting flowers and one always cleans mum room before I get there so she’s not calling in when I’m there, she always asks how we all are too. Overall the care home is somewhere I would recommend to anyone and have."

"We are very impressed with the quality of care that Mum receives at Newton House. She was bed-bound and quite poorly when she arrived here 4 months ago but now she is mobile again and is joining in with lots of the activities that are arranged on a daily basis. The “activities team” are brilliant, always putting their heart and soul into everything ~ today is World Bee Day and they are all dressed up as bees! There are also gardens that residents can spend time in whenever they want to. Mum also loves the food, which is very good quality. The nurses and carers are all very kind, caring and attentive. My dad visits Mum every day and is always made very welcome, he joins Mum in most of the activities and can eat lunch every day with her too. We feel that the excellent care Mum gets here has contributed to her amazing improvement."
