Activities at Mount Vale Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from PAT dogs, entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Louise Chapman

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Louise I have been working at Mount Vale since 2010. I am the activities co-ordinator, I am here to promote the wellbeing of our residents and ensure they have a variety of activities to get involved in. I love finding new creative ways to engage our residents and involve our local community.

I am a dementia champion for the home and enjoy continuing to learn and find more things I can do to help promote the wellbeing of our residents.

I love spending time with each individual getting to know them so I can add individual needs into our plans. I love building strong relationships with our residents and families.

I am a crafty person and can be found doing diamond arts and lots of other creative things when I am not at work. I love spending time with my family and going for walks with my dog Dottie and cuddling my cat Loki.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Mount Vale Care Home

National Beer Day

We couldn’t miss the opportunity to celebrate National Beer Day. To make things better we had fabulous sunshine so we all sat in the garden. From local Beers to more unusual ones, residents enjoyed talking about all of the different tastes and strengths! We had traditional bar snacks alongside and all ended up reminiscing about the types of drinks they used to have. As you can imagine it was a very funny afternoon!.

Fun in the Sun

Elsie and Nettie along with other residents here at Mount Vale have enjoyed splashing around in the pool and having a giggle! When the sun has been beating down we have enjoyed beach games, ice creams and cocktails in the sun!

RAF Hendon

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

Pets at the Palaces

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.

A visit from Mr Motivator

We had Mr. Motivator visit once again this week. He got our Residents moving and shaking and having a good giggle. Exercise is an integral part of our activity schedule daily either virtually with our partners Oomph, balloon badminton or dancing. Residents really enjoy the energy Mark brings blasting out music and giving us all a little more motivation. We all have great fun and look forward to his visits.

Residents enjoy intergenerational link

Elderly residents at Mount Vale care home in Northallerton have recently been involved in intergenerational work with the local junior school. The care home have been welcoming the group of junior school children from South Otterington C of E school on a monthly basis, to enjoy reading books and sharing activities together with residents at the home.

Head Mistress of South Otterington School, Amanda Gledhill invited Mount Vale residents to join the pupils at their morning worship this week and went on a visit. Edwina Herbert, a retired school teacher enjoyed spending time with the children, which brought back some happy memories.
