Activities at Moreton Hill Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Commemorating VE Day

Moreton Hill residents commemorated VE Day over the weekend. We enjoyed reminiscing, Lorna printed off some interesting food rationing advice and recipes, which were inventive as so many foods were not available including sugar. Residents love our rural location and we spoke about how living in the countryside during the war meant they did have fruit and vegetables as well as eggs. Many remembered evacuees arriving to the area.

We all smiled when one resident recalled how his father a local dentist was "paid" in petrol or cigarettes. We are so privileged to hear about these experiences first hand from this amazing generation.

We were very pleased there is no longer a sugar shortage as we greatly enjoyed the Union Jack cake for afternoon tea.

New Singers and New Songs

We had a lovely session with the Melody Makers this afternoon and it was great to have a few new members join – Joyce, Mari and Roger. We also tried out a few new numbers including Summertime and Don’t Cry for Me Argentina. The sun was making an appearance as we were singing Summertime, so we plan to sing that one again!

Another Trip!

Activity Coordinators Lorna and Jackie have had a very busy day with two minibus trips! They have done an amazing job organising these trips to ensure all the residents who wish to have been out and about. These trips will now feature every week as part of the varied activities programme at Moreton Hill with residents putting forward plenty of suggestions of where next!

Tree Crafts

The theme of this week's crafts has been trees. The textures, colours and form of the many varieties of tree can be studied in great detail. Residents selected from a range of leaves to create a clay leaf which we will be decorating next week. We also painted tree silhouettes, adding sprinkles of colour to create blossom both on the trees but also falling. With inclement weather it has been a perfect opportunity to bring the outdoors inside. It is wonderful to be creative, but also these session lead to a wide variety of conversations and interactions amongst the residents.
