Activities at Moreton Hill Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Fun & Games

As well as our regular exercise classes, we also play skittles and boules, dominoes, draughts and cards. Our parachute game is also a very popular activity and it is much more difficult to get the balls into the middle than it looks. Teamwork is definitely required!

Snowdrops & Snow

Just when we thought Spring was around the corner and the flowers were starting to show in our gardens, we had a weekend of snowy weather. It was a beautiful winter wonderland view from many of our residents’ rooms, and despite the lane to Moreton being covered in snow and ice, our intrepid staff made it up the hill with the help of a few 4x4 vehicles.

Vaccine & Testing

We are proud to say we were at the top of the list in our area to get the first dose of the vaccine for our residents and staff on 31st December 2020.  What a way to celebrate New Year!

We are now waiting for our second jabs, but in the meantime, we have got used to doing regular lateral flow and COVID-19 tests.  Everyone has played their part and it has been a great team effort.

Pictured here is Evelyn getting her injection from one of our wonderful doctors at Rowcroft Surgery in Stroud.

Christmas Arrives

This year we had to host our own in-house service on Christmas Eve. Our residents chose a selection of carols, prayers, poems and bible readings for the service, which was followed by a special supper before everyone retired to their rooms to hang out their stockings and have a good night’s sleep before the big day.

Lunch on Christmas day started with drinks in the dining room before the main meal of smoked salmon and roast turkey and, of course, all the trimmings.

Merry Christmas to all!

Christmas Decorations

It’s a tradition at Moreton Hill that everyone makes a decoration for one of our Christmas trees. This year, we also asked everyone to wear their Christmas jumper for National Christmas Jumper Day.

Thank you to all the families who sent in tops for people to wear. Everyone looked very festive and it was a great way to start the Christmas celebrations!

Bagpipes & Father Christmas

Although it has not been possible to have any indoor performances, our residents were delighted to see Will and Theo play in the garden one lunchtime. Then, on Christmas Eve, Father Christmas turned up to play his accordion for everyone.  What a talented chap!  A few Christmas tunes soon got everyone in the festive spirit and ready to hang out the stockings.
