Activities at Moreton Hill Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Jackie Chillingworth
Hello. I am Jackie, the Lead Activity Co-Ordinator at Moreton Hill. I have worked for Barchester for over 10 years. Now, together with my team and the staff at our beautiful home, our aim is to help all residents live life to the best they can by bringing meaningful and enriching activities into their lives.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Moreton Hill Care Home

Nature in Art
Every week we have a weekly art class run by volunteer Mel. Mel and a group of fellow artists are currently exhibiting at Nature in Art near Gloucester so we took a few of Mel’s students along to see Mel’s work in situ. The sculptures and paintings were set in beautiful gardens which our residents enjoyed looking around. The setting was so tranquil we could have stayed all day.

Team Fun
As well as being awarded Barchester Team of the Year for Central Division for all their hard work, the staff at Moreton Hill still find time to have some fun and do a bit of team building. This summer many of our staff have taken part in activities including kayaking on the local canal and a sound bath in the garden of the home. . The sound bath was totally relaxing and the kayaking exhilarating. It was a wonderful way to spend time together and for many try something new. We are all waiting to see what on the agenda next. There are plenty of ideas in the pipeline.

Ruby our therapy dog
We are so lucky to have regular visits from the wonderful Ruby and her owner Gaby. Together they bring huge amounts of joy to our residents, especially to those who are in bedrooms and unable to join in with group activities. Many residents have a close connection to animals and stroking little Ruby can bring back wonderful memories of pets that have played such an important part of a person’s life. We love hearing the stories that people tell us about their animals, not just dogs but horses, cats and from our farmers stories about their cattle and their farming lives.

Olympics
The weather didn’t show up on the day but nevertheless this didn’t deter staff and residents holding their own Olympic Games. There was a race for everyone and plenty of medals to be won. From javelin throwing to bean bag tossing, wheelchair sprints, hand relays and egg and spoon everyone had a go and entered into the spirit of the games. Chef Stuart and his team certainly deserved a gold medal for cooking up a delicious BBQ followed by a scrumptious selection of puddings that kept everyone’s energy up.

A wish come true
It all started with a conversation about a painting in Geraint’s room of a lavender field. Geraint told Nurse Princess that the painting had been done by his wife and that he had never had the chance to visit the nearby lavender fields. It just so happened that the previous weekend on her day off, Princess had visited Snowshill Lavender Gardens near Broadway. After making a plan with the Activity Team and waiting for a beautiful sunny day, Geraint went on his dream visit to Snowshill. The lavender was in full bloom. Two days later the gardens were closed for the lavender harvest to take place. It was a wonderful day out and we were all delighted that we were able to make a wish come true for Geraint.

Lunchtime Visitors
We love getting involved with our local schools and over the years have established excellent connections with ones in our area.
To mark the end of term, 30 pupils from Cashes Green School in Stroud walked over the hills from their classrooms to have lunch with our residents. There was plenty of chat, fun and laughter as the residents and children swapped stories. After lunch the children were able to play in our garden before we all had a sing-along and it was time for them to climb back over the hills to school. We look forward to seeing all the pupils and staff when they return from their holidays in September.
