Activities at Moreton Hill Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Big Balloons

We often play ball games like skittles and boules. The big balloons are also popular and great for gentle exercise. Seeing how long we can keep the balloon up in the air is the challenge we set ourselves.

Christmas is Coming

Our Christmas cake is made and being fed regularly with copious amounts of sherry. It smells wonderful!

In our activity sessions, we have started making Christmas cards and crackers, and soon every resident will be making a decoration to go on one of our four Christmas trees.

There is still the Christmas pudding to make and the wreaths and flower arrangements, the Christingles, the peppermint creams and mince pies. It’s going to be a busy month ahead!

Poppies, Pumpkins & Children in Need

In November, we had our own Halloween, Remembrance Day and Children in Need celebration. Whilst the occasions were different this year, we didn’t want to let these dates pass unmarked.

The poppies were made pre-lockdown in our pottery class, and every resident was given one to have in their rooms. The pumpkins were displayed in reception and in our courtyard.

Spring Bulbs

Here are Moira and Marion, both keen gardeners, getting to work in our beautiful courtyard and planting out some spring bulbs. All the bulbs were chosen by our residents, a mix of tulips, hyacinths, crocus and daffodils. We are hoping for a magnificent spring display in 2021. It’s something for us all to look forward to.

Birthday Celebrations

We love to celebrate birthdays and special events at Moreton Hill. On birthdays, each resident enjoys a cake made by our chef and we usually have a glass or two of fizz when we sing happy birthday!

Rita and Derek both recently celebrated their birthdays and although their families couldn’t come into our home and had to visit outdoors, we made sure that they both had a lovely day.

Book Club

We hold a monthly residents’ meeting where everyone has the chance to put forward ideas for new activities. In September, Gwen suggested we start a book club. We chose our book of short stories by Roald Dahl and every other week we meet to read and discuss one of the stories with the group.

Reading aloud helps anyone with visual impairment. The club has been a huge success and we have already decided that our next book will be Richard Osman’s latest novel, ‘The Thursday Murder Club’. We can’t wait to get stuck in!
