Activities at Milford House Care Home

The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.

 Milford House Supports WaterAid

Milford House Supports WaterAid

Residents were delighted to welcome Hazel pictured here on the right with one of our Residents, a representative from WaterAid, to tell us all about their work and how any money we might raise will be put to use improving access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene around the world.  Residents had already chosen WaterAid as their chosen charity for this year (following our fundraising efforts for Send A Cow in 2015) and Hazel's informative talk has really inspired us to start our efforts.  Over the coming months we will keep you informed about our fundraising initiatives and how you could contribute or support us if you would like to.

Easter Trail Winner

Easter Trail Winner

We are delighted to announce the winning entry for our Easter Trail. The winner, pictured here with our Easter Bunny who had to be named, thought that our bunny should be called 'Joyhopper because he is joyful and he likes to hop everywhere!' The judges were unanimous in their decision and felt that this was a really imaginative and charming name.  Well done to our winner and everyone else who entered.

Special Treat from The Brownies

Special Treat from The Brownies

We had this fund display in our front hall by the 'signing in' book to brighten up everyone's Easter, and we didn't stop there! The lovely mini daffodils were given to us at Christmas by the Brownies who came to visit and they left a pot for every resident to enjoy - so we have had them all around the Home this Easter where they have graced rooms, dining tables and common areas of the Home providing a ray of sunshine and real boost to the spirits with their cheerfulness. Thank you Brownies.

The Magic of Music

The Magic of Music

Residents at Milford House were treated to a magical afternoon of music when a granddaughter of one of the residents came in to play the piano and sing for us. She went through a repertoire of familiar and well-loved classics such as part of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata as well as some well known songs from recent musicals such as Phantom of the Opera. It was a truly lovely afternoon and we are all hoping that she will come back and play for us again soon.

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Residents at Milford House took part in Nutrition and Hydration week with a brief talk from a nutritionist from Salisbury District Hospital to get us motivated in taking more care of this aspect of our health. The talk was followed by a lovely tea and then we were encouraged to sign up our resolutions on the pledge tree which we have up in our conservatory. We all agreed it was a very interesting afternoon!
