Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Denise Ashby

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Denise and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Melbourn Springs. I joined Barchester in 2022 and always strive to support and care for all of our residents in a way that best suits each individual.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that I hold very close to my heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them.

A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Mini Bus as we create new, special memories together at Melbourn Springs.

Space Week

Our residents at Melbourn Springs were delighted to receive some amazing drawings from Melbourn Primary School as we celebrated Space Week - and our ex-Head Master Colston was delighted with them all!!!

After viewing the display, our residents also enjoyed a documentary about Helen Sharman – the first British Astronaut and received their very own postcards from her too!

Home Festive Lunch and Secret Santa

Residents and staff at Melbourn Springs dressed up and enjoyed a festive meal together so that everyone could enjoy some special time as a whole home before the big day itself.

During the morning, it was Iris’s turn to open the Melbourn Springs Advent Reindeer – Ronnie!

The festive lunch expertly cooked by Paul, Annie and Hussain was delicious and Head Elf Karen was also in attendance to help distribute the Secret Santa Presents too! After which residents all came together to enjoy a virtual performance of the Nutcracker.

Resident Anne said, “It was a thoroughly well-organised afternoon and I really enjoyed myself – thank you all so, so, much!”

National Elf Day and letters to Santa

To celebrate National Elf Day our staff at Melbourn Springs dressed up as Elves with General Manager Karen scooping the prize of best dressed Elf!

Our festive Elves soon got to work helping our residents make Christmas Cards, post letters to Santa and the day was completed with the first Snow of the season too!

The festive feeling sure is growing at Melbourn Springs as we all look forward to celebrating our first home Christmas together.

Christmas Lights switch on

What a momentous moment as Christmas has well and truly arrived at Melbourn Springs!

We had a busy day decorating our beautiful home including the superb Christmas Trees - kindly supplied by Fieldgate Nurseries and Dobbies Garden Centre.

The countdown began as residents and staff enjoyed a delicious Buffet expertly prepared by our Hospitality team and we even have own Sleigh - designed and built by our superbly talented Head of Maintenance – Rob.

The Sherry was flowing as County Councillor Susan van de Ven did the honours of switching on our home illuminations - marking the start of our first Christmas celebrations at Melbourn Springs.

We were also joined by our community friends Ryan Chico Foulger and Alex in their amazingly decorated, illuminated Cars. This certainly was a night to remember and certainly will never be forgotten!

Doughnut Decorating Fun

Our Activities Coordinator Sophie organised a Doughnut Decorating session for our residents at Melbourn Springs. Needless to say not one Doughnut was left and lots of fun was had between the donning of Aprons, Handwashing and Hand Sanitizing.
