Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home

Dementia Awareness Week

Meadowbeck took part in this year’s Dementia Action Week by jointing different virtual events and having mindfulness conversations about those, living with Dementia.   Throughout the week, we also took time to explore and learn more about our sensory equipment and Dementia-friendly items available at the home, we purchased new reminiscence boxes around gardening for our rummage boxes, and Individuals added photographs and cards to their very own personalised memory boxes.

Cheese and wine evening

Residents at Meadowbeck enjoyed our latest cheese and wine evening with a selection of cheese and other savoury nibbles as well as a fresh fruit platter.  Everyone enjoyed the tasty selection with wine of their choice either a crisp white, fruity Red or Rose or alcohol free.  Residents look forward to these social evenings every month with great interactions singing along to their preferred music with arms  waving in the air with lots of clapping and toes tapping.

Residents join the Green Goddess

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Meadowbeck Care Home in Osbaldwick were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.

Shackletons and Diana both celebrate the importance of exercise, a healthy diet and mindfulness, particularly in later living. Diana has been working with Shackletons since 2019 to promote their bespoke seating. She has produced a series of exercise videos extolling the virtues of gentle exercise in a Shackletons chair.

Happy faces at Meadowbeck

There were happy scenes at Meadowbeck care Home in Osbaldwick as hairdressers were finally allowed back into the home.

Just like the rest of the country, residents had been waiting patiently for months to get their hair styled and so they were delighted to be able to book in for a long overdue cut and blow dry.

Annaliza Kemp, acting General Manager at Meadowbeck care Home commented: “It really has felt like Christmas today, our residents are just so delighted to be able to get a good cut and to feel like themselves again.  It is wonderful to see them all so happy, we have really missed our hairdressers – it is fantastic to be able to welcome them back again.”

A Royal tea party

Residents and team members  celebrated the Queen Elizabeth 95th Birthday with a traditional afternoon tea party, the home was decorated with red, white and blue flags before the homes hospitality tea whipped up a treat of delicious home-made cakes including scones with cream, jam and fresh strawberries.  Residents had a wonderful day and there was lots of smiles all around!
