Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home

,

National Hug Day

The residents and team at Meadowbeck had fun taking part in ‘National Hug Day’ with residents creating hand-made cards sending out hugs to their loved ones and holding Skype calls with their family members.  It was a fun day with lots of laughter and the highlight to round of the celebrations was sitting down to enjoy refreshments and a slice of homemade cake

,

International Flower Day

Residents of Meadowbeck enjoyed taking part in International Flower day with a wide range of activities planned throughout the day from a flower quiz and who could name all of the flowers correctly, a selection of puzzles before showing their creative sides with colouring in flower designs to flower arranging.  The flowers were then displayed for all to see.  It was a fun-filled day with something for everyone!

Home delighted to receive vaccine

Staff and residents at Barchester’s The Meadowbeck care home, in Osbaldwick, were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at  Priory Medical group Surgery, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

Deputy General Manager, Annaliza Kemp said: “Last year was a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Baubles and bubbles!

Residents enjoyed an evening of Baubles & Bubbles, making personalised Christmas Baubles for the tree and whilst sipping a glass of bubbles! Some placed a little Christmas wish and memories inside to loved ones before placing on the tree.  It was an evening full of joy and Christmas cheer!

Deck the halls

Residents and team members got into the festive spirit  as they helped with putting up the Christmas decorations throughout the home in the lead up the Christmas countdown.  Residents took their time

dressing the Christmas Tree as Christmas carols played in the background spreading Christmas cheer around the home.  Once finished everyone sat back to enjoy festive refreshments accompanied by mouth-watering mince pies and sharing fond Christmas memories.

Local pre-school share Christmas wishes

Residents at Meadowbeck were overjoyed when little ones from the local village pre-school came to visit them bringing crafted cards and decorations for the tree. The children visit the residents at Meadowbeck each year and sing carols as they exchange gifts.

The children were so looking forward to visiting as they do each year, they did not let the current difficult times get in the way.  They still came to visit waving to residents from the window , still singing beautiful Christmas carols before leaving. They really did make the residents day putting a big smile on their faces.

Residents are looking forward to when we are able to invite them back in to the home.  Things have been so different this year but as always we have had lots of Christmas well wishes from many local surrounding schools with beautifully crafted cards, residents and staff really appreciated all there lovely well wishes all showing there wonderful creative skills.
