Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home

Home amongst first to receive vaccinations

Staff and residents at Barchester’s The Meadowbeck care home, in Osbaldwick, were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at  Priory Medical group Surgery, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

Deputy General Manager, Annaliza Kemp said: “Last year was a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Carer recognised for Long Service Award

A Carer at Meadowbeck Care Home in Osbaldwick has received a prestigious 20 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 20 years.

Susan Pullon, now Carer, started at Barchester in December 2000 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Messages to loved ones

Here at Meadowbeck we realise the importance of keeping lines of communication open with our friends and loved ones during these difficult times.  As well as keeping in touch with video calls,  residents enjoy sending well wishes to family members letting them know we have them in our thoughts by writing a few lines or with a personalised card to show loved ones what they are doing to keep busy.

We believe this is a lovely surprise for a loved one at home and brings joy to their day receiving these through their letter box.  We have also enjoy correspondence with members of the local community with our pen-pal links.

Dorothy's charity pop-up shop

Residents and staff enjoyed were delighted to purchase their Christmas cards,  all beautifully hand crafted by resident, Dorothy who had created her very own pop-up stall.  Proceeds were to help raise money for people who live with Dementia donating all funds being given to the Alzheimer’s Society.  It was a lovely afternoon accompanied with refreshments and delicious mouth-watering homemade cakes.

Remembrance

Residents showed there creative side as they enjoyed a craft afternoon making  poppy wreaths for our Remembrance display and a Remembrance Tree writing personal messages for the fallen, before joining the rest of that nation tuning into the televised service in the lounge or quietly remembering in the privacy of their own rooms.

They celebrated Armistice day with a lovely afternoon of Reminiscing with Residents sharing memories from times past from Mothers wash day and scrubbing their doorsteps to their favourite hairstyles using pipe cleaners, finished off to a lovely afternoon listening to hits from the war years with a cup of tea and delicious homemade cakes.

,

Grandparents Day
