Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity  to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home

Garden Visit

We opened up the garden for families to see their loved ones again after 3 months of not seeing them. The families and the residents sat 3 metres apart, and everyone was so thankful to see their loved ones again.

Maple Leaf was filled with cheer and laughter all around. It was an emotional couple of days, but it was all worth it!

Father's Day

All the men enjoyed having a drink of their choosing and eating snacks whilst singing away to their favourite classic songs. We transformed the dining room into a pub to set the mood. The residents even had ago at doing a pub quiz. Everyone was laughing and joking and having such a good time.

Royal Ascot

Maple Leaf Lodge went to Ascot! The first thing you need is a hat; the residents all made their top hats and fascinators to look the part. The residents then coloured  their horses and raced them along the track. At the end of the day, the ladies all gathered together to have afternoon tea with cakes and biscuits. Team members, Alison and Courtney, dressed for the occasion.

The Butterfly Experience

Over the last few weeks, we have watched caterpillars grow into beautiful butterflies. When they arrived, they were no bigger than a finger nail and very hard to see, but over a few days, they soon became very hungry caterpillars.

We sat and watched then most days wiggling about and, over a week, they soon started to crawl to the top and form chrysalises. We had to be very careful not to disturb them and hurt them. This step took around a week, and we waited and waited for them. Overnight, they became beautiful butterflies. We fed them oranges and sugar water for around 5 days and then released them in our garden.

Star Wars Day

On the 4th May, residents celebrated Star Wars Day in style. Residents had a visit from Chewbacca himself, and we enjoyed watching Episode VII: The Force Awakens and 'Guess Yhat Star Wars Character' game. Residents said that they enjoyed the space-themed day and want to let you all know: "May the force be with you".

Virtual Tea Party

On Tuesday 21st April, Maple Leaf Lodge held a virtual tea party for National Tea Day. We had a variety of different teas on offer, and we each rated our favourite flavour. The winner was peach!
