Activities at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

I have worked at Maple Leaf since 2020 and I started as a night carer before taking the opportunity to lead the activities team. My team and I ensure that the residents enjoy a range of fun and varied activities from outings and external performers to animal therapy and gardening.

Life at Maple Leaf Lodge Care Home
Read all about it!
READ ALL ABOUT IT – CARE HOME RESIDENTS CELEBRATE BOOK LOVERS DAY
Bookshelves are bulging at Maple leaf lodge care home in where book worm residents were keen to get involved in Book Lovers’ Day.
Staff and residents decided to host a discussion about residents’ favourite books and launch their very own monthly book club. Residents then spent the afternoon making their own book marks to save their progress for the next meeting.
Alison Bradley, the Activities Co-ordinator at the home commented: “Our residents all love to read and to discuss their favourite books so Book Lovers’ Day is a fantastic opportunity for us all to spend the day with our noses in our favourite books. We also had a great debate about reading from print or electronically from a tablet, there were strong arguments from both camps!”
Maple Leaf entering the World Photography Competition
Residents at Maple leaf wanted to enter the world photography challenge. We were given the theme and after many discussions of what to do we thought to look into the word ‘light’ a little more and what it means. Staff member, Selena came up with the idea to incorporate the word into a quote and base the photo on it. Our photo resembles residents Ron and Rose who have been happily married for 67 years. They are natural models and it shows them looking through their wedding album while the sun is shining down on them.

Celebrating World Chocolate Day!
National chocolate day went down a treat at maple leaf lodge care home. The residents and staff enjoyed an afternoon of delicious chocolate tasting and sweet desserts. Activities staff dressed up as Oompa Loompas from Charlie and the chocolate factory. Resident Ivy said it is possibly one of the best days of the year getting to eat as much chocolate as you like!
In the Mood for Dancing
We enjoyed our very first in-house performance since lockdown, and it was definitely worth waiting for. The Chantry Dance Company did an amazing performance of the enchanted moon.
Both residents and staff enjoyed themselves and we finished the day with a delicious BBQ. Resident Brenda said it was wonderful and felt really touched.
Knowsley Safari Tour
Staff and residents were treated to an exciting live streaming tour of Knowsley Safari, hosted by Engagement Assistant, Verity Dann.
Knowsley Safari has been welcoming visitors for 50 years since it opened in July 1971. Situated in the Knowsley area of Merseyside, the safari park is home to 750 animals on a 550 acre site. It boasts the longest safari drive in the UK.
Verity’s workshop took a peek behind the scenes at Knowsley to find out what it is really like to work in such a demanding yet rewarding world. Residents discovered what a day in the life of a keeper entails, from feeding time with the giraffes and meerkats through to training sessions, and everything in between.
Verity explained some of the conservation projects that Knowsley Safari is involved with and how this is positively affecting some of the world’s most endangered species.
Blooming Haus
Residents were treated to an interactive virtual floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus. Residents were invited to gather together flowers and foliage chosen by themselves the day before in the garden and follow Michal’s demonstration to create their own displays.
Residents’ arrangements will be entered into a Facebook competition judged by Michal and Michael to win Love2Shop vouchers.
Pat, Ivy and Rose all took part in flower arranging and take a lot of our inspiration from our own garden.
