Activities at Lynde House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators get a real buzz off their work here as enthusiasm is essential for the role. We decorate and celebrate for all the big annual events, Valentine's Day, Easter, Mothering Sunday and much more. There are also regular fixtures in our activities programme, including bingo, a sherry morning and quizzes, that are always well-attended. There's also an International Day that we hold to celebrate the wonderful ethnic diversity of our staff, where members of our team and their families give up their time to showcase their national costumes, dances and songs. Of course, we also have activities and services tailored to those residents who prefer the quiet life, such manicures or simply a friendly chat and a cup of tea. We always do our best to learn about residents' hobbies and interests and try to arrange our activities programme around their individual likes and dislikes.

Chinese New Year – Friday 12 February

Residents enjoyed a special Chinese New Year lunch yesterday prepared by Andrew and his team - the decorated dining room really made us feel oriental.

Wearing our vaccination badges with pride!

The Lynde House team were delighted to be given badges to show recognition of vaccinations they have received, a sign to residents and colleagues they have had the vaccine to protect them. Resident Tony (96) commented “of course it makes me feel safer.” Resident Jean also said “it’s very pretty, maybe residents should all have one too!”

General Manager, Alison McIntosh said: “we will all be wearing these badges with pride, we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected’.

Our Big Garden Birdwatch

We stayed cosy and warm at Lynde House this weekend to take part in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch and were rewarded by Parakeets in our garden!  There are several rumours as to why so many tropical birds can be spotted around London including the birds escaped from the set of 1950s film The African Queen, which was being filmed at Isleworth Studios. Thank you again to Bill who sketched us his version of our garden birds

Lynde House Embraces Flower Power!

Residents celebrated International Flower Day on Tuesday 19th January. International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. From growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty – flowers have the power to make someone’s day.

Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including a flower arranging competition and a flower quiz which everyone really enjoyed.  Their collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.

Alison McIntosh, General Manager said: “Our garden is a much loved space, residents really enjoy looking after the plants and flowers and watching them grow and change through the seasons. We don’t have many flowers at the moment so our residents very much enjoying having the fresh flowers to make their own arrangements to display around the home”.

2nd Teddington Scouts write to residents

Residents were delighted to receive cards and letters from 2nd Teddington Scouts, organised by Claire, the group wrote about trips they have enjoyed and more they are looking forward to in 2021. Showing interest in our residents is heart-warming and during our coffee morning this week prompted reminiscence of their Scouting and Brownie days. We hope in the future the group can visit us to meet residents and everyone can share their experiences, thank you to Claire, the group leader who organised the letters and is working so hard to keep the group going during the current restrictions.

Birthday Celebrations!

Tony celebrated his birthday with friends and everyone raised their glass of bubbly with a special toast, all within the safety and comfort of the visiting suite. Although we have a screen in place it really is like being in the same room to chat and share memories, plus there was a wonderful birthday cake!
