Activities at Lucerne House Care Home

At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.

We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.

Alex Petersen

Activities Coordinator

I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.

In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.

My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Life at Lucerne House Care Home

Return to Chatterbox Café

Residents have had a great time at Chatterbox Café, a locally run café in our local community centre/village hall. We had a great time meeting others from the village, chatting with Julia from the group and enjoying a selection of drinks with sweet and savoury treats.

We look forward to visiting the café each week and to other outings we have planned for our residents in the coming weeks and months.

A Landmark Birthday

We had a big birthday at Lucerne House, when one of our residents, Bessie, reached the grand age of 107. Bessie was joined by family and staff to mark this special occasion. Everyone at Lucerne wished Bessie a very happy birthday and raised a glass to her 107th year.

Community Competition

We have enjoyed receiving entries to our hanging basket competition this month at Lucerne House. We ran the completion from our Facebook page, asking our friends, relatives and members of our community to send on pictures of their hanging baskets and garden arrangements. There were some fantastic displays.

Our residents chose the winning entry, pictures below, and they received a luxury hamper as their prize. We have many posts and events updated regularly on our Facebook page.

Animals return to Lucerne House

We were so pleased to welcome back Katherine Nias and her animals from “AniMates” this month. Due to the pandemic we have not been able to see them but now there is some easing in restrictions, we have had a great time with them. We were introduced to Gary and Charlie, the Guinea pigs, Hetty the Chinchilla as well as welcoming back Tenner the dog and Rosie the Tortoise. The time we spent with the animals brought lots of smiles, joy and triggered memories of times that our residents had spent with their own pets. We look forward to regular visits from Katherine and her animals in the coming weeks and months.

Cool Refreshments

The sunny weather means sun tan lotion, refreshments in the garden and, of course, ice cream. We were lucky to be joined by Liddicones Ice Cream Van. Our residents have really enjoyed his most recent visit, with one resident saying it was the tastiest ice cream she has ever had.

Summer Time

Warm weather and sunshine means the return of our popular ice cream sundaes at Lucerne House. Residents and staff have been enjoying some wonderful creations with an amazing assortment of toppings. With summer weather arriving, we can’t wait to enjoy and share more summer themed events.
