Activities at Lochduhar Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Valentines Day

Home celebrate Chinese New Year

Its Chinese New Year and our residents have enjoyed celebrating the ‘Year of the Ox’ with a variety of celebrations and activities from one to one arts crafts making colourful red dragons for display throughout the home, learning about Chinese traditions around New Year before settling back to enjoy a themed lunch, especially prepared by the homes hospitality team of sweet and sour chicken, fired rice, prawn crackers and spring rolls washed down with Chinese tea.  Everyone also enjoyed a little fun and laughter as they read their fortune cookies!

Resident celebrates landmark birthday

Born on the 25th January, Resident, Margaret Gault celebrated a landmark birthday along with the traditional Burns celebrations. As part of the birthday girls joint celebrations with Burns, a piper from Corberry pipers played ‘Happy Birthday’ along with traditional tunes to collaborate with Robbie Burns celebrations.  As the piper performed from the homes grounds, the birthday girls watched from in the warmth of the home and was all smiles.  Margaret, was delighted to receive a card and telegram from Her Majesty the Queen before enjoying a glass of sherry and a slice of home-made cake.   She also enjoyed a visit in the homes designated visitor suite with her son, Michael and sister-in-law and was pleased to see them on her birthday.

'Frostier the Snowman'

As the snow fell around the home, conversations flowed as residents reminisced about the fun fill days spent in the snow as children, from those snow ball fights with friends to finding the best slope to go sledging.  With a little humour, activities created a miniature snow man named by residents – ‘frostier the snowman’.

Staying in touch

Residents at Lochduhar throughout the pandemic have been sharing messages to their loved ones, they have also been making use of Skype and Facetime so that they can video call their loved ones – although initially some weren’t too sure about the new technology!  For one resident, Christina she always has a huge smile on her face when she's see her grandchildren pop up on screen!

Flower power at Lochduhar

Residents at Lochduhar celebrated International Flower Day which took place on 19thJanuary.

Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including flower arranging, reminiscing about their gardens and flowers in the home’s garden.  Their collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.
