Activities at Lochduhar Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Lochduhar Care Home

Indoor reunion joy

For residents at Lochduhar Care Home in Dumfries, the long awaited reunion with two family members has become a reality, as two named visitors are now allowed to visit each resident in their bedroom.  Family members must visit separately, at different times.

There has been much anticipation of this moment by families and residents alike.  Guidance was issued by the Scottish Government at the end of February and Barchester Healthcare, who run Lochduhar Care Home, is proceeding with a safe and cautious approach to visiting. Strict protocols are in place with all visitors required to have a negative Lateral Flow Device test result before being allowed into the home, and infection control measures and social distancing in place for every visit.

World Book Day

Residents and staff embraced their inner book worm for World Book Day this week. They enjoyed chatting and reminiscing about their favourite books and chose a new book to read from a selection provided by our local Book Club service.

World Wildlife Day

The 3rd March 2021 was World Wildlife Day. Residents enjoyed celebrating the world's plants and animals whilst thinking about issues that impact on our wildlife.

Conversation flowed while resident, Cameron, and Maggie, our Activities Coordinator, filled up the bird feeders around the home. We will all enjoy watching the birds visit our gardens at Lochduhar in the coming days

,

Pancake Day

Residents enjoyed celebrating Shrove Tuesday with a traditional serving of pancakes, they had great fun in tossing them up in the air to see who could flip the highest before filling with their favourite toppings from simple lemon and sugar to chocolate and fruit!  What is your favourite filling?

,

Bake me a cake!

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake bake me a cake! This afternoon residents enjoyed a bake off as they whipped up a storm to make a delicious chocolate cake for afternoon tea as part of the homes popular baking activity.  Conversation flowed as residents shared fond memories of baking as children’s and favourite recipes

Birthday celebrations

We love our birthday celebrations here at Lochduhar and we recently celebrated 86-years young for Resident, Gloria.  Gloria had a wonderful day celebrating with Facetime and Skype calls with her daughter, son-in-law and her grandchildren.  The birthday girl was also excited with the mouth-watering birthday cake, flowers and the fuss as she smiled throughout the day.  Happy birthday Gloria!
