Activities at Lochduhar Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

International Flower Day

We recently celebrated International Flower day by arranging some flowers of our own.

There were many different types of flowers and shrubs. While arranging the flowers, some residents spoke of their own gardens and what type of flowers they grew, roses and tulips were a favourite.

A Visit from the Northwest Nursery

We like to keep in contact with the community, and so last week The Northwest Nursery paid us a visit. Our residents faces light up when they see the children coming in to visit them. They played a game of snakes and ladders, did some jigsaw puzzles, loop the loop and a pairs game. The interaction between everyone is so nice and we talked about our time with the children later on that day, with a cup of tea and slice of cake.

Starlings with Royal Parks

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Christmas Trolley Competition

We decided to have a Christmas Trolley Competition here at Lochduhar. Our domestics, Kitchen staff, Activity Team, and all Floors took part.

The game was on to make your trolley look the best. We had Santa his Elf, the little helper and the sleigh. We had a sweetie trolley, a winter wonderland trolley, a fair ground all made from Lego! We had a Christmas Snowman theme and another lovely sleigh with some pink reindeers! And that lovely other sleigh with the pink reindeers was the winner! Janice and her team from Burns Lodge.

Making Mince Pies

Some of our residents in Memory Lane have been making some mince pies. They put on some Christmas songs, as they made their mine pies and sang along. They were so pleased with the end result and they had them for afternoon tea.

Maxwelltown Brownies visit Lochduhar

We recently had Maxwelltown Brownies visit us here at Lochduhar. They sang some Christmas songs for our residents and Reverend Johannes came too. Our residents, in all communities enjoyed the singing and they sang along too. The residents thanked them and handed out some decorated gift bags to the Brownies as they left.
