Activities at Lochduhar Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Northwest Nursery Visit

We have a visit from the Northwest Nursery in Dumfries once a week.

Our residents here at Lochduhar, really look forward to seeing them. They sing a 'Hello Everyone' song to us at the beginning. They bring their bats, balls, balloons, parachute and games with them.

The smiles on all their faces is lovely, the residents and children seem to get so much joy. The interaction is good for the mind body and soul, as the children ask the residents to join in with their games. The children sing to us and the residents like to join in too. Lastly they sing their 'Thank You' song and head off back to school. Residents are very much looking forward to seeing them soon.

Home celebrate 30th anniversary

Lochduhar care home in Dumfries, has thrown a Garden Party to celebrate 30 amazing years of serving the local community.

Staff, residents and guests commemorated this special occasion outside in the homes extensive garden with live music, singing and dancing. Everyone was able to enjoy a buffet and refreshments whilst sitting in the warm summer sun especially prepared by the homes hospitality team.

Long Service Award

A Senior Carer at Lochduhar Care Home in Dumfries has received a prestigious Long Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 30 years.

Margaret Muir, Senior Carer, started at Barchester in May 1993 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

RAF Museum London

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

Out to Lunch

We took some of our residents out for lunch at The Swan in Kingholm Quay.

We met up with some of their families, so they could enjoy some personal time with them.

We had sandwiches with salad and chips and a cool glass of lime and lemonade.

Then two of the ladies said they would like to go and visit the harbour which was just across the road.

It was a glorious sunny day and fun was had by all.

Football Memories

We took this gentleman on a bus trip to his local football ground Queen of The South.

He was in fine form, singing along the way. We met up with the football memories group, which is held the last Thursday of every month. They showed us some flash cards of footballers and managers from the past. Alan enjoyed sharing his knowledge and was reminiscing with others in the group.

They showed us the pitch which is being resurfaced at the moment. They then gave us some refreshments.

A fun morning was had, as we all sang on the way home.
